Commercial Description:
Just in time for the holidays is our special treat. A dark and chewy bock beer. Around November you’ll find ’chocolate bock’ on tap down at the brewery. The history of Bock beer is a complicated one, going all the way back the dark ages in Europe. In the 14th century, the city of Einbeck became famous for this style of beer. So thats where the name "beck" or "bock" has come from. No other beer has a more pure and intense malt character as a true Bock. Many large breweries in the U.S. have diluted the original strength of this beer, but we make the real thing. The body of this beer is rich, making it a good beer to warm up to during those "special" Iowa winters. The blackened malt that we use in it gives the brew a slight hint of chocolate. Its a smooth brew, having been lagered for over a month in our cellars, in true bock style.

A simple, session bock. Aroma has light caramel and malt. Flavor tastes bocky enough, some light malt, a little sweet. For all their talk in the explanation, this beer is surprisingly light.

A 12-oz bottle supplied by JK. Pours a rich reddish dark brown with a quick dissolving laced head. Aroma of light caramel, coffee, milk chocolate and some mild grassy hops. Flavor has a chocolate taste at first and then turns more towards coffee. Palate is sweet and syrupy to the tongue. Finish is sweet. Refreshing and not too bad.

Mahogany-bodied (with more of a ruby tint to the edges), rather thin with a slight, tan head. Faint aromas show malted tendencies. Roasty malt flavor, still on the weak side, with a subtle sweetness that could be construed as chocolate. Even though the C.D. above condemns other breweries for "watering down" their brews, I think Millstream could stand to bump up their O.G./F.G. by a notch or two.

Good winter brew. Starts off with the smell of chocolate and coffee. Pours dark brown with a small light tan head. Tastes much like it smells.

Pour is a very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is a nice roasted malt with some coffee chocolate. Flavor is about the same. Some chocolote and coffe with a nice silky mouthfeel. Not bad from this brewer.

Pours dark crimson / brown with a patchy white head. The aroma has lots of chocolate malt, light roast and effervescent qualities. Medium body with lots of prickly carbonation. Flavor starts with more roasted malt than expected, but more watery than it should be for the flavors. There is also a slight hint of chololate. The finish has slightly more chocolate and is a bit astringent and medicinal. An okay beer.

bottle-thanks to vyvvy for the sample. pours dark copper brown with asmall tan head. aroma of nice with notes of nuts, roasted malts, light milk chocolate and light smoke. nice chocolate flavors to start with notes of dark roasted/toasted malt husks. unfortunately, the beer suffers from a lackluster palate which was watery and somewhat thin. somewhat astringent husky notes on the finish. with a few tweeks here and there, this could be a great bock!
