Commercial Description:
Just in time for the holidays is our special treat. A dark and chewy bock beer. Around November you’ll find ’chocolate bock’ on tap down at the brewery. The history of Bock beer is a complicated one, going all the way back the dark ages in Europe. In the 14th century, the city of Einbeck became famous for this style of beer. So thats where the name "beck" or "bock" has come from. No other beer has a more pure and intense malt character as a true Bock. Many large breweries in the U.S. have diluted the original strength of this beer, but we make the real thing. The body of this beer is rich, making it a good beer to warm up to during those "special" Iowa winters. The blackened malt that we use in it gives the brew a slight hint of chocolate. Its a smooth brew, having been lagered for over a month in our cellars, in true bock style.

A decent beer, but not what I would expect as a bock. Small nose. Smooth palate but chewy. Clean but one dimensional. Lacks melanoidans. Easy drinking and enjoyable, but not as complex as it could be.

Pours a dark brownish black, partly clear. Aroma is malty, slightly nutty with some alcohol on the nose. Taste is smooth, slightly metallicy but barely noticeable. Pleasent. Some soft tobacco. I would almost describe this beer as being rustic.

Got a 6-pack of this for my brother for Christmas and stole a bottle. A really nice quality beer from MS that just might be their best.

Bottle. Light caramel / burgandy pour with beige head. Aroma is smokey, nutty, chocolate, some dark fruit. Flavor is the same, some aged caramel malt, lightly oxidized, and lightly watery palate. Unique beer.

Bottle; poured a reddish brown color with a minimal head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, roasted malt and a good dose of chocolate malt. A bit of strangeness to it. Flavor was pretty solid, if not unspectacular. Some chocolate notes with a bit of rye bread notes in the finish. A touch watery and fruity. Overall this was a solid beer.

12oz bottle. Clear light brown pour with a medium tan head. Sweet malt and caramel notes with chocolate. Caramel malt flavor up front giving way to chocolate and a dry coffee finish. Not bad.

12oz shorty bottle. Deep, opaque chestnut brown. Minimal, put lasting head. Sweet aroma, some dry hops pervading through. This is quite a well done Bock beer in my opinion, balanced, smooth and drinkable. Sweet brown sugar and chocolate. One of the better stateside examples I’ve had.

12 oz bottle. Light to medium aroma, not a lot of hop qualities to it, but a minor lager grass is in the background as the smell is not overly sweet. A good amount of roasted nuttiness, darker grain malts, and maybe less chocolate sweetness then I was expecting. Pour was ok, with a small, frothy, fizzy head that mostly dissipates. A nice full feel for the style that flows down nicely. Sadly the flavors are pretty mellow, but are not bad. Again, similar to the aroma, a grass bittering hop sits in the background and comes out more in the finish as it is fairly dry. The main players here are really roasted caramel, nutty and sweet dark and black grain malts, and minor chocolate and coffee. Not really all that much chocolate. A pretty decent beer.

Rich dark pour with a frothy off white head that lasts throughout. Absolutely delicious. No real bitterness and it sits sweetly on your palate.
