beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 24, 2007 Pours a hazy orange color with a thin white head. Good aroma and flavor of spices, fruits and funk. The body is light and powdery. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Jul 5, 2007 rating based upon 22 oz bottle and keg. very hazy golden in color with a medium to large white head. Aroma is very nice- citrus fruits, alot of spices, a touch of sweetness and alot of dupont yeast. Taste is light to medium bodied with alot ofruits- lemon and orange rind, alot of spices and musty yeast- light funk notes. Finishes nice and spicy, and somewhat dry. mbrandon2w (109), Worcester, Massachusetts, USA May 15, 2007 Updated: May 16, 2007great spicy aroma. somewhat hazy copper. lingering spicy finish, like spiced meats, combined with a smoky flavor, like smoked gouda, made me wish that the flavor in this one would not leave my mouth. This was my first saison, and I can’t wait to get my hands on some more. MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 23, 2007 My Bottom Line:
This Saison’s floral fragrance develops orangey fruitiness and sweetness before it is balanced out by herbal hop bitterness and bready yeast. A competent American take on the style is always appreciable, and this one is no exception.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A thin veil of foam slowly sinks into the cloudy nearly opaque orange.
-The well-fed body is fun to chew on, and never hinders drinkability.
-Carbonation is comfortable.
-Bubblegummy esters are perceivable.
-The spiciness and fruitiness of grains of paradise is hallucinated.
-A lactic touch contributes some complexity.
Bottle from the brewpub. Thx to Mike and Dany! Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Feb 14, 2007 Updated: Apr 26, 2007Bottles graciously offered by dirtymike. Cloudy blonde body topped by a small white head.
First bottle: This is one pleasant light beer. Dupont-ish saison yeast blend-in with citrusy and lemon skin flavours to create some kind of Saison-Witbier crossover. Refreshing beer with a light juicy body and pleasant tartness. Light but satisfying. 3.9
Second Bottle: Quite different from the first bottle. Felt more spicy and funky than the first bottle. Weird floral/herbal aroma reminiscent of lavender or camomile. Funky herbal spices, again very yeasty and grassy aromatic hops. 3.3
Was it the 3 months aging between the two tasting session or just another example of the variability of handcrafted beers. I don’t know but so far I found that beer as variable as Britney Spears waist size.
