willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Apr 26, 2008 20061209 Party at Capt Lawrence, growler thanks to hophead. Golden color. As you might expect, this hopped up saison matches the brewers description and, it seems, their intent. And the intent is noble and good. Aromas almost of typical APA, but with background notes of grasses and weeds with Belgian inspired spicing. Nice mix, nice balance. Soft eff (growler). Could easily be a Dickinsonbeer homebrew. rikkard (8), USA does not count Apr 2, 2007 On tap and growler. Pours a nice golden.
Small white head. Aroma reminds me of fresh cut hay. First impression tastes of grapefruit. I agree with tonyc603. The best way to describe it is a Belgian IPA. Balanced, hoppy, slightly sweet with a nice finish and mouthfeel. One of my favorites. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Feb 12, 2007 Tap at brewpub. Clear blonde body with a small white head. True to its advertised nature, true American hoppiness on top of a true Belgian Saison foundation. Dupont-ish yeast, fruity notes, light honey flavour, leafy hops (very hoppy). Finish is moderately bitter, a little sweet and with a nice tartness. Not content with being simply well balanced the beer is also very tasty, borderline intense. Successfully delivers exactly what it promises, if only the brewer could do politics… tonyc603 (43), New Hampshire, USA Feb 5, 2007 Hazy golden in color with a small white head. This is a very interesting beer, the aroma blends Belgian yeast with citrus hops. The flavor is spicy, fruity, slightly acidic, bitter and hoppy. It’s like a Belgian West Coast IPA for lack of a better description. Take a light Belgian saison and hop it with tons of those citrus beasties and wham! It’s overly bitter in the finish, one of the major flaws with this beer, but I like it still because I love hops. Volgon (2487), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Dec 30, 2006 On tap in the livingroom: Pours a lightly hazy light orange with a thin white head, citrus hops and banana in the aroma with some spices. Light bodied with mellow carbonation, starts lightly sweet ends lightly bitter with a long spicy ending. PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Dec 11, 2006 Has a great hoppy aroma, resiny. Standout aroma for a Saison. Pours a hazy yellowish golden with white head. The body is a drop thin IMO, but it’s full in flavor. Grassy notes, hint of barnyard/hayish touch, with a solid hop finish. A unique and dry saison. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Dec 10, 2006 This is a newer amped up version with different and more hops than previous versions as per hophead75. Andrew brought this to the Captain Lawrence gathering- thanks dude. This is really a unique and tasty Saison. Pours with a nice slight hazy gold with a fluffy lasting white head. Aroma is a cool blaance between intense west coast hops- moslty chinook and crystal and then you get a nice yeasty phenolic farmhousy character. Flavor is very hoppy along with lots of farmhouse hints, somewhat saisonlike behind the hops and finishes very dry and extremely bitter with citrus and pine in the end. Damn smooth and tasty. I loved this stuff. Not traditional but damn tasty stuff. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Dec 10, 2006 Shared at the RateBeer gathering at the Captain Lawrence brewery. Poured a cloudy golden with a white head. Strong pine and grass aroma... reminiscent of a piney IPA. Taste is very bitter pine and grass hops, with a distinct lightness that keeps this from being an IPA. Almost like a strong golden ale. The pine flavor and scent is strong enough to remind one of air fresheners used around the holiday season to make your home feel more like a log cabin. Interesting and refreshing.
