Cask at GBBF ’08. Very dark brown with a small off white head. Sweet vanilla and green banana aroma. Definitely a vegetal taste, with a hint of cigarette ash. Low bitterness. After the wonderful MT beer at last year’s festival, this was a disappointment. Didn’t really like it. A porter, but not as we know and love it.

A beer that the New Hampshire General would truly be proud of. If you like porter’s and you’re in the area, i strongly suggest this beer. The hint of chocolate gives it a unique flavor...and it’s won awards

Pours black with nice tan head. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, and molasses. Flavors are roasty and sweet, but by no means complex. Body is a little thin and watery- could use a little more malt character. Pretty good porter.

From a growler purchased at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown, almost black with a healthy off white head. Weak & spotty lacing. Palete was a bit thin & dry, but smooth & creamy. Flavor is light coffee with some semi sweet chocolate. Very enjoyable. A great session porter.

Dark almost black, small tan head, moderate lacing. Chocolate and coffee, but only moderate nose, only moderate intensity. Very little dark roast, and like the rest of Millys’, only moderate mouth feel and only moderate malts.

Tap at brewpub. Black body with a generous long-lasting tan head. Full bodied filled with plenty of dark malts. Not a lot of roastiness flavour, just a lot of dark malts with a light fruity taste (dates) and a touch of smoke. Superior porter, simple but effective. Very nice body. Named after a local war here from the 18th century. If John Stark was to raised from the dead I’m sure he’d say “It’s an honour to have such a nice beer named after me” and “why are these black people walking around like free men?”.

This is becoming one of my staples. A good session porter, dark brown in color with a light tan head and ruby highlights. Aroma is of nice chocolate and roasted malt, slightly sweet and fruity. Flavor is all malt, mostly chocolate and a touch of toasted bread, with subtle roast. I used to be not so fond of porters but this definately helps me eases away from that mindset.

On tap at Milly’s: Pours a dark cola color with minor tan bubbles around the edges. Aroma is of rich dark malts and fruit (cherries?). Taste is of rich dark malts and earthy hops with notes of molasses and fruit. Medium bodied and smooth with ample carbonation. Ending is of rich dark malts and earthy hops.
