Deep brown colour, tan head. Sweet chocolately malts over deeply caramelized malts with a touch of licorice and anise in back. Herbal/earthy hops over a sweet earthy malt base. Hops are a touch resinous, which matches the deep blackstrap molasses character very well. Bittersweet chocolate and earthy/fruity Northern Brewer type hops. Deep malty/earthy finish with a bit of licorice/anise over soft bitterness. Great pint.

Dark brown/black color with reddish/orange highlights. Aroma of malt, caramel, roasted grains. Pours a thin head, leaves some light lacing in the glass and a thin layer of fine bubbles. Rich, complex flavor of malt, hops, cocoa, dark roasted coffee... slightly nutty and bitter finish. Great beer, pretty easy to drink despite its rich, dark, complex nature.

[growler] Nice dark color, with a tan colored head. Flavors are mild and somewhat sweet- finishing with a nice, coffee/malty aftertaste. Very nice.

Roasty, charcoal, chocolate aroma with some grape-like notes. Opaque brown with ruby tones. Decent tan head recedes slowly to ring. Grapes, raisins, chocolate and nuts in the flavour. Medium body with a somewhat slick texture and light carbonation. Sampled at the brewpub with dirtymike, MartinT, muzzlehatch, Rastacouere and Volgon.
