Small sample at the brewpub, also in the company of Volgon and brewer Dirtymike. Deep caramel-copper with bit of a ring of foam...incredibly sweet, creme brulee nose with a touch of licorice...sweet-smoky body, big and rambunctious at first, then settling into dry and sour-breay late...could use a bit more heft, but this one has promise. Strong caramel aroma contains an earthy tartness I’m not familiar with. Quite mellow aroma, fruity, orangey and grainy. Becomes better to my tastes in mouth. It has a creamy smooth feeling accompanied by a medium body and low carbonation. A tartish toothpaste mintiness adds a new dimension to the sweet candyish caramel maltiness. A balancing bitterness keeps it from reaching the extremes effortlessly. A good beer that knows its limits. MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
