Aroma screamed hops from first pour, but let’s pull in close.
Ahhh! Big fresh pine and citric, outstanding PacNW combination that reeks of pine resin and grapefruit. Brilliant bitterness, yet sweet and hard to beat, an utter delight in the nose.
Soft and creamy once into the mouth, but backed by a battalion of bitter hops, then fading just so, but leave a gritty hop texture still on the tongue. Quite a complex beast, this, a mix of mango, citrus, and tropical fruits in the flavor infused with intense, unrelenting, but undoubtedly delicious bitterness. It hangs around the mouth like the proverbial fat lady. The IBU’s must be through the roof on this guy. "Hopnoxious", indeed, but to a hop demon like me, it’s doing the trick quite nicely.
ABV rumbles into presence halfway into the glass. It’s a little strong, yeah, and we feel it, and we love it. I mean, I do, anyway...but the taste is what resounds most strong in this particular ale. Most delicious. Most.
If I could get this in my neighborhood, I’d be a regular for sure. A pleaser for this person’s palate, indeed. Ridiculously delicious.
Only a glass and a quarter into this growler, and I can’t drink it all tonight, so...I’ve got something to look forward to tomorrow night, then, haven’t I? Very good stuff, can’t recommend it enough... hophead75 (1954), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

This year’s version is 9.5 %. Deep golden/light amber in color. Lots of citrus, light pine, and malts blend nicely in the aroma. The taste is huge ctrrus, with a nice piney bitterness, oily/slick mouthfeel, full bodied. Lingering bitterness in the finish. really enjoyed this, and looking forward to more! tonyc603 (43), New Hampshire, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 5, 2007 Man is this one ever obnoxiously hoppy and I love it! Nice deep golden color with a large white head. Aroma is full of fresh cut flowers, fruit, citrus and spice. Flavor is of oranges, grapefruit, lemons, very bitter with a good mouthfeel. This could have more malt character, but I’d still love it either way. Becareful, this beer is very deceptive I didn’t realize it was 9.5% until it was too late.Good times, hop times, enough said. Volgon (2489), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

Huge grapefruit with resin in the nose, full bodied with good carbonation, starts and ends pretty fricking bitter. Long intense aftertaste that makes you want to drink more. Make more and deliver it to my house Mike! Dickinsonbeer (3451), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA

This was one of my favorites of the night. 9.5% ! Pours a deep orange with a nice sticky lasting head and some nice lacing on my glass. Very hoppy overall- lots of citrus, pine, orange peel, and even a hint of harsh smokiness from the chinook/? Nice full flavor and body with tons of hops, a bit of crystal matl backbone, and an extrememly harsh pleasant bitterness in the end which was nice. Damn tasty DIPA. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 1, 2006 [many pints] Pours a bright gold color, with a tall, off white head. Strong citrus aroma. A real hop assault, in terms of flavors. Piney and resinous, but as it warms and the palate adjusts, some real fruity, melon-ish elements come through. Slick, dense mouthfeel. A really well done example of a pretty common style. Fantastic. willblake (2176), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

Aromas are massive with woodsy, spruce, grapefruit, orange-citrus hops, and aromatic bitters. Resinous yet unctuous, harsh bitter to finish but lastingly coating. Strong and hefty malt background is at once sturdy, yet not so bready, doughy, or flavorful as to overtake the big hops. Really nice. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 7, 2005 Pours amber with a thin head. Aroma is a huge citrus hop bomb. Flavor is huge citrus and pine hops, the malt is overpowered buy the hops but still shows up and is not to thin.
