tonyc603 (43), New Hampshire, USA May 7, 2007 Drank this sevreal times including a few growlers. I still can’t believed this was brewed in Manchester NH. This was outstanding in every way. Black as night, dark brown head.Body was thick, chewy, imperial in every way.Aroma was chocolkate, roasted malt, espresso, dark fruit, a touch of licorice.Flavor was bittersweet and full of punch, with a touch of alcohol.Heard from one of the bartenders that there is a version of this that was aged in Jack Daniels oak, can’t wait to try that one. fbennett (293), Lowell, Massachusetts, USA May 2, 2007 Note: This offering has been aged for 1 year
Pours a dark and evil black with a thick tan head that stays strong with this brew. The aroma is chocolate, freshly ground espresso, vanilla, dark fruit, syrupy caramel. The taste is bitter upfront, fruit syrup, coffee, chocolate, wonderful flavors throughout. This is a delicious aged stout. Some earthy hop notes bitter this brew up with a smooth alcohal feel at about 9% thick and viscious this is a serious stout that please the palate.
Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Apr 11, 2007 Hand bottled from Dickinson beer. Pour was the much quoted, used motor oil. But That fits well. Black slick body with a creamy brown head. Nose is bitter chocolate, espresso and roasted malts. Upon taste I get some warming from % that I no not, and a touch, complimentary of smoke. Really creamy. This is a great one. Finish linger on the tongue like Belgian dark chocolate. Thanks this was great! I LOVED THIS! sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Feb 14, 2007 EBF 2007: Great name. Pours black with a dark tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor, chocolate and some coffee. Too thin on the palate, really un-remarkable. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Feb 12, 2007 Tap at brewpub. Black body with a long-lasting medium tan head. What a nice imperial stout! The taste foundation is very much dark chocolate/cacao with maybe a few hints of dark fruits. Not much coffee or dry roastiness here. Very round and smooth with no sign of alcohol. However what makes this one a superior imperial stout is its hops character and dosage. Chocolate body with a tart citrusy hoppy finish is a tricky business but when done right it is truly enjoyable. Nice finish mixing cacao and tartness that prevents you from putting your glass down. Such a highly drinkable 8.8% beer would be more appropriately called Imperial Death Stagger. BitchesBrew (710), Berkeley, California, USA Jan 4, 2007 Updated: Jan 29, 2007[growler] Dark, bittersweet chocolate aroma; pure black appearance, with a few dark brown bubbles. Flavors are very bitter, chocolate flavors, with almost-burnt malts and a touch of coffee. Heavy duty stuff. Volgon (2487), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Dec 30, 2006 On tap at Millys: Pours a black color with ruby highlights and a thin tan head, big chocolate and coffee aroma, thick and rich, starts and ends lightly sweet with a chocolate ending. KariCupcake (214), Lenox, Massachusetts, USA Nov 13, 2006 Shared a sampler of this at Milly’s. The color was black as halloween night (with no moon), and the big coffee and chocolate taste was great. Very velvety!
