Cask@the Pembury Tavern, Hackney. Good stout, tastes like they have put vanilla and/or chocolate into this. Quite velvety, with coffee ice cream and mocha flavours. Vanilla notes also obvious. Has a tendency to be sweet, but the roasyness in the finish helps you to forget that a little bit.

Cask gravity at Pembury Tavern BF March 2007. Black beer with thin beige head. Coffee-ish aroma, grainy. Nice intensity, especially the chocolate. Bit of hot alcohol. Pretty good stout. Malt is ok, maybe a bit of vanilla too. Bit of whiskyish malt maybe?

A Mes rate: Seem to remember this being a gravity dispense cask. Festival special maybe? It’s not on their website. In my experience Milton do a pretty damn good stout and this was no exception. So much dark chocolate. Reminds me of cocoa powder specifically. Absolutely glorious. The aroma was almost an 8. Just so chocolate dominated that I felt I wanted just a little bit more. More chocolate in the flavour with plenty of roasted dark malt. Usual coffee and dark fruit as you would expect and then drying towards the finish. But damn that chocolate, it’s great. I’m sure there must be some added, I’ll have to check.

cask @ pembury festival. Black with a malty ring for a head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. It has a strange medicinal character - reminds me of cough syrup. Taste of roasted malts, black coffee and sweetish cherries. Tingles a bit on the tongue, but overall pretty smooth as expected.
