LIght rings of lace mark each quaff, big and small. Full roasted malt aromas, with backdrops of hearty roasted coffee, rich dark chocolate, and aged tobacco. Thin, yet a slightly slippery quality in the feel. Bittersweet chocolate, wrapped with a hint of lightly acidic coffee. A mild sourdough quality toward the finish with a nice dry roasty linger. A nice relaxing stout. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 10, 2006 On cask. Beautiful once settled, filling in as opaque, completely and solidly black, with the creamiest, solid tan foam head stretching one inch tall in the English pint glass. There’s some lightening at the edges of the glass as the head recesses, but we’re talking about less than an inch of beer remaining by that time, and after we’re able to peer through the sandblasted dark tan lace. Aroma revels in crunches espresso grinds, dark chocolate undercurrents, blackened cigar wrappers, and a touch of lactic mocha sweetening to preempt a semi-sweet morsel beat. Flavor affirms its stout status with smooth, melting milk chocolate Hershey squares. Casual cask consistency with a slippery, uniform jello scattering when it hits the tongue. Incredibly smooth. Mild Colombian bean roastiness protrudes in the aftertaste, and when the tongue presses upward, a lactic and mocha bean flavor is additionally excreted. Creaminess encompasses more space the longer it sits in the mouth, and when it’s eventually sipped down, a tannic tract lines the middle of the tongue. Roasty grinds linger with a melting milk chocolate melody. Tiny Fuggle-esque bitterness presents itself near the end of the glass. All in all, a decent rendition. MIBRomeo (1965), Wisconsin, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 26, 2006 Pours to a pitch black reverse cascading body that took quite a while to settle out. The head is thick, creamy, lasting, and tan. The flavor is sweet, creamy, black patent dryness, coffee. Something comes off as out of place. Perhaps an ultra-light banana? The palate is medium-full bodied and slick. Dry roasty aroma that is not very apparent. At first a ho-hum stout. As I drank more of it, it becomes a pretty average (decent) beer.
