CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Sep 8, 2007 Sampled at the brewpub on 6/25/07: Pours a barely transparent dark amber mahogany with a thin, clingy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of lightly milk chocolatey malt and some banana and lemon citrus yeastiness. Body starts lightly bready and caramely sweet with some lemony tartness toward a doughy, German yeasty finish. A unique brew that could use a little less tartness, but otherwise enjoyable. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 06/25/2007

solid dark brown, fine tan head, drippy lace,
sweet cocolate and banana aroma,
light wheat body is hidden by the chocolate,
lots of sweet chocolate flavor, nice fruity banana character provides more sweetness for the chocolate, a touch of butterscotch is hidden in the sweetness, very light bitterness in the finish

sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 26, 2007 On tap @ the brewpub: Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma, chocolate, some wheat, roasted malts. Flavor, chocolate, some doughy wheat, some fruits and a roasted malt character. One of the better beers I had from them. JPDIPSO (4865), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA May 7, 2007 Cloudy brown color with a moderate off-white head. Aromas of cocoa, light wheat, yeast and roasted malts and just a hint mint. This is a new twist on a weiss. For me this is a cocoa ale of some sort. Flavors of dark cocoa and roasted and toasted malts come to mind. There seems to be a slight wheat presence, but the roasted malts dominate. More like the New Glarus Black Wheat than a Chocolate Weiss, but still lacking much wheat character. drpimento (785), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Apr 28, 2007 Was really looking forward to this at the Between the Bluffs beer fest due to MWH’s rep. It was served with a great thick foamy frothy head and nice dark, almost opaque black color. Nose had a disticnt butterscotch diacetyl flavor that dominated the roasty, chocolatey slightly tangy character. Flavor was same but more so. Dumped it. Hawksfan17 (717), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 11, 2007 Pours a nice dark brown with a milky head. Smells of toffee, I was thinking this would be nice, but I was wrong. I had trouble choking it down as it tasted like a mild whiskey. I say that in the regard that is made me feel sick. I can see how other reviewers thought of asian food. Tough one. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Apr 2, 2007 Murky, dirty black mud with some grayish tan sand on top. Cloves and chocolate bubblegum come out at first whiff with a touch of sweet cinnamon and chocolate angel food pound cake. Pepperish hints, though quite a reserved nose. Subtle, balanced flavor brings out decadent, naturally compounded cocoa morsels. Cloves and black pepper are coated by mild chocolate icing, and subtle cocoa powder over bananas gives an added surplus. Supportive carbonation drives home cinna-chocolate sticks dipped in tea-like iced mochas. Sweet, chocolaty English toffee patrols with portions of grinded mocha java beans. Medium-bodied and pleasantly balanced. Cloves come out and a mild lemon lactic acidity manifests in the finish, but the black patent, dark chocolate and flame-licked tootsie rolls lead in the end. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Mar 26, 2007 Pours to a dark brown body with a thin white head. The flavor is heavily soy. It’s like I’m eating Teriyaki infused soy product. Very heavy flavors in that category. I’m not digging this one at all. The aroma comes off as if this is a poorly made beer. Soy, strange dark malts, hand lotion? Very odd. The palate is off too. Perhaps it’s all the off flavors that I’m getting, but the lingering palate is not appealing. Hmmm.... what were they trying to do with this one? Did they just botch the batch and then try to sell it to recover the costs? $5 a glass is robbery on this one.
