phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jul 20, 2008 Pours a copperish colour with a big off white head. Aroma is strong of alcohol, coriander and malts. Taste is a little unbalanced in my opinion, really heavy on the spice. Mouthfeel is full and very carbonated. Maybe I just need to try it again. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA Mar 27, 2008 Pours a nice dark brown with a large bubbled smallish head. Overwhelming aroma of coriander but some sweet malt is evident underneath. Flavor is overwhelming coriander that is so strong that it covers up the other flavors. I sent this one back as it was borderline undrinkable (i.e. drain pour). It did have a nice silky mouthfeel. By far the worst beer I have ever enjoyed at my favorite local brewpub. shendrix (478), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Mar 19, 2008 This was by far the best beer I encounterred at a very nice night of drinking at the Milwaukee Ale House. A deep amber beer with just a hint of a head, it tastes like sourdough bread laced with citrus honey. Extremely drinkable. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA Jul 25, 2005 Tap: dark ruby color with film for head. Aroma very sweet and spicy. Residuel sugar with some clove. Flavor much the same with a bigger caramel kick. I thought this was easily ther best beer. JPDIPSO (4865), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Jun 30, 2005 Dark copper color with a modest light beige head. Mild toast and caramel aromas with hints of clove and cinnamon. Full feel, but not overly heavy as the aromas may suggest. Mild wheat and toasted barley flavors, give way to an interesting fruit and spice mix (mincemeat pie comes to mild). A decent effort, but nothing really stands out to make this special. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA May 29, 2005 Updated: Jan 14, 2008Had this on tap. This was a very spicy beer. I really didn’t like the amount of spice in the flavor. The palate was decent. The barkeep said it was a Belgian, but it surely didn’t taste like Belgian’s that I like. I give them credit for trying, but I didn’t think this was anything special. May 29, 2005. 7, 4, 6, 3, 13 = 3.3
New batch. Jan 13, 2008. Pours to a ruby body with a thin ring white head. The flavor is sweet malts, cigar tobacco, toasted coriander, fire-braised orange rind, and dark candi sugars. Extremely unique. The candi sugar really shines on this one. Not cloying in the slightest like most dubbels. The aroma is subtle but has a nice sweet dark candi sugar, cigar tobacco, orange peel, and light coriander. The palate is medium bodied with a slick velvet texture. MIBRomeo (1962), Wisconsin, USA May 28, 2005 a nice deep copper color w/ a good thick tan head w/ some nice lacing. A good hop light wheat and sweet flroal aroma w/ a touch of spiciness to it. Palate is full well coated and creamy. Flavor is a sweet floral carmel malt and a nice grass hop w/ a touch of bitterness.
I was told this was a belgian and if it is an odd one at that but good stuff. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA May 14, 2005 Poured a deeper brown with an almost fire-truck red when held to light. Head was initially very large (I believe that was somewhat due to the server’s rough pour). Aroma was spicy and fruity. Belgian yeast and candi sugar, as well as the aforementioned fruits, hit the palate, although it could have been better balanced. Aftertaste was light and sweet. Decent beer, and glad that the Ale House tried it.
