Polycask at Merton Summer Beer Festival July 18th Poured mid gold, good clarity and with a nice but not overpowering whisky aroma. Loz and I had a taste of this at Kevin Minchews Cidery and I must say that I’m glad that it was handed to us in a thimble sized tasting vessel as this really tasted quite pokey. Good appley aroma but with a definate whisky whiff in there. Taste was quite dry and fruity with a nice warming trickle and sensation coming from the whisky, it wasn’t overdone in the whisky cask and was really quite lovely its just this one was very clear that you had to treat it with great respect, the apples were forever present but much like the Olivers Dabinett I think the Dabinett isn’t my favourite singel varietal, the whisky cask ageing improved this and added to what would have been just an ok cider.
