Commercial Description:
Brewed every autumn to commerate our anniversary. Anniversary Porter is an extremely smooth tasting beer with many of the traits of our award winning Founder's Stout without the sharper notes of some of the black barleys. A favorite of dark beer drinkers.

On tap at the brewery. This brew was poured ice cold for BBB63 and I at the brewery. It had a small head of foamy light brown extremely long lasting bubbles that left behind an excellent lace and a opaque dark brown colored body with no visible carbonation. It had a nice dark malt aroma that may have been more comples as it warmed, but I was in too much of a hurry and guzzled it down too fast to tell. The mouthfeel was smooth with a mild tingle in the finish. It had a mild malt flavor that was very disappointing given the wonderful appearance of the brew.

RERATE 2005 batch, growler: An increase in appearance, quite the nice lacing. While the nose is a bit weak, there is enough there to keep me interested. Again, the flavor is twangy and displays a some burnt character, quite quaffable. The recipe is the same but the ability to enjoy slower at home made me feel better about the beer as a whole.

On tap: Dark brown hue with a good frothy light brown head and good lace. Aroma hinted of dark bread, cereal, nutty malts, milk chocolate, smoke, and vanilla. A bit weak in the nose. The taste was bitter with a undertone of nut and some sweetness. The dry finish had a twangy and smoky character with hoppy presense. Not really deep or complex, served way too cold. Body was too thin but was lively. A average porter, not what I expected from someones "anniversary" brew. Disappointing. (2.8 original score)
