CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Apr 10, 2005 Sampled at the March 25th Tosa Gathering, courtesy of BBB63: Pours a pale clear copper with a thin whispy white head. Aroma is sweet and lightly sour malty. Body starts lightly sugary sweet, turning more tart and sour toward the dry finish. Not very true to style, but has a nice viscous oily body. Could do without the sourness. JPDIPSO (4862), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Apr 4, 2005 Amber color with a smaller white head. Grain and light corn aromas. Flavors of grainy malt and leather. Sour and acetic. really does nothing for me. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Apr 2, 2005 Clear dark amber body with a thin white bubbling. Olive aroma with light toffee and apple butter. Yeast/apple flavor with grain husky caramel. Strong tart notes. A great take on the style! JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Mar 30, 2005 Coppery rust color. Thin white head. Aroma is peppery... oily pepper with hints of my personal vomit aroma. Not that its horrible... just reminicent. Round and juicy sour gritty sand taste. This is an odd one. Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA Mar 29, 2005 Pours a dark amber color, small white head. Aroma is cherries apple and funk. Flavor is sweet and a little sour as well. Some McD’s sweet and sour sauce, caramel apples, and vinegar. Thanks to BBB63 for sharing this one. BBB63 (4196), La Porte, Indiana, USA Mar 28, 2005 Glower opened two days later at the ’Tosa gathering: Amber hue with a fizzy lasting head and good lace. The aroma has notes of apple , vinegar, funky yeast esters, and caramel. The taste is twangy and sour, unlike a dopplebock. The finish was grainy and dry. The feel has a strange oily feel but is still lively and dry. Wierd and different but I digging it in a Lambic sort of way. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Mar 28, 2005 Medium to light brown in color. Smells sour and malty. Taste is sour, sugary and sticky. Super sweet caramel malts. Sugar might have been added. Vinegar like sourness contributes to a slick, oily feel on the palate. Unique doppelbock, but not a great interpretation of the style. Thanks to BBB63 for bringing the growler! 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Mar 27, 2005 Someone brought this to the Tosa Tasting in a growler. Thanks! Aroma: Lambic in aroma, floral, citrusy, caramel malt, fruit. Appearance: Copper, brown, no carbonation. Flavor: Sour apple, grainy rye/barley finish, malt sweetness. Palate: Sourish, light-medium body. Overall: This is really good. Get it if you can!
