Apr 3, 2006 Near black colour. Chocolatey aroma with some dark fruit notes (plum, burnt cherry). Fruity flavour with a fair bit of roast and a tart, dry finish. Quite a bold, if unrefined, example.

Sep 11, 2005 Bottle. Black colour with a big baige head. Light roasted chocolate aroma and a light roasted sweet chocolate coffee taste. Medium body and a dry finish.

Jun 4, 2006 22oz bottle acquired in trade with BBB63 (thanks!). This one initially poured all head. Finally settled down to a dark black, with red edges, and a tan head. Aromas of chocolate, roast, coffee grounds, and caramel. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, and light roast. LIke some of the other ratings I see, this one ended on a sour and tart finish (detracting from the tastes). Thinner body.

Sep 15, 2002 Tried it out of the tap at the brewpub. This beer has a wonderful tan, almost guinness-like head. It’s very full-bodied and slightly bittersweet with an even sweeter aftertaste. There was a hint of oatmeal in the palate. It won the world beer cup in ’96 and ’98, and I’m surprised that I had to add it to this site. A must try if you can find a bottle, or visit the brewpub.
