Sour, smoky and lightly sweet. Medium body, sour, skunky, smoky...malty/skunky finish. Yeah, it’s infected all right. WolfsBlood84 (103), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

Bottle - Pours a dark reddish color with huge head that will not calm down. Smells sour and a little fruity, yeasty. Taste is very strange, I totally was not prepared and definitely thought it had gone bad - but I guess everyone on here is saying the same thing... So it’s supposed to taste like this?! Weird, it tastes like a very dry, sour, and bitter spoiled lambic (is that even possible?). Either way, I’m not real into it and surprised that this is a big seller. I suppose it’s worth trying.
EDIT: I was at Mishawaka a few weeks ago - I told them a had a few of their beers back in Indy, including the Horseman, they asked me if my Four Horseman was alright and proceeded to explain that they had several batches that went bad. I had a fresh Horseman sample - a Killian’s clone, boring. Some papery and fruity slightly sour aroma. Flavor is very sour and of over ripe pears and apples. Infected? I don’t think so, just very sour and dry. Flavors are apple raisons and white grapes. Quite tart. Very lively carbonation and a quick faorly dry palate.

A deep dark red with a big off-white head. Basic dry malty aroma. Flavor seemed almost sugary with the malts and fruity hops balancing out in to something that I enjoyed more than I thought I would. A faint lingering bitterness with a medium body. patrick767 (2033), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 16, 2007 bottle - Pours up a ridiculously huge head. This one took awhile to pour. It looked ruby red at first, then changed to more of a dark amber as a little more yeast hit the glass. There’s a light caramel malt aroma. The flavor is surprisingly sour, very unusual for the style. I see others have mentioned that characteristic and no, I don’t think it’s infected. Copton Rudolph’s Revenge has a similar sweet caramel malt and sour fruit flavor. Medium bodied, it finishes moderately bitter. It’s an interesting beer, but I’m not overly keen on that sourness. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 23, 2007 Drinking from a bottle of Four Horsemen Irish Style Red Ale: This pours a deep caramel/amber body and has a bubbly ecru head. The aroma is bready and has some caramel sweetness along with a dash of earthy bitterness. It has some tropical fruit (?) in the flavor along with bready malt and apples. An herbal/earthy/piney bitterness begins building up midway to balance it all out. It finishes on an earthy bitter note. One of the better brews that I’ve had from Mishawaka.
