Commercial Description:
Jack ’O Lager Pumpkin Beer is brewed every autumn to celebrate the Halloween and Thanksgiving seasons. This year (2008) we have returned to the recipe of 2001 after we received comments that the Pumpkin from that year and before was the best. We didn’t think there was any difference. However, after researching our records we discovered that we had made a slight change in the recipe. So this year’s Pumpkin beer is dedicated to those who could detect a difference. Jack ’O Lager smells like a pumpkin pie, tastes like a pumpkin pie, looks like a beer.

Hazed amber/orange, minimal head. Strong nutmeg and cinnamon nose. Festive aroma, but Whoa! Way too frickin’ sweet! Spices are detectable in the flavor but far behind the sugar cloy. Mid-bodied and mouth coating. Not recommended. (However, I took a suggestion from our server and mixed this about 1:2 with Mishawaka’s Founder’s Stout. It was interesting and it balanced out the sweetness, but I’d just as well bypass the Pumpkin and have a pint of the stout.)

Bottle (I am assuming that this is the beer I drank - was in a bottle labelled "Specialty Beer" with a cartoon pumpkin sticker on it). Nutmeg aroma dominates but also notes of clove, cinnamon, pumpkin, and sour milk. Pale yellow color with big white head. Very nice flavor - nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, and pumpkin malt. Very well blended - flavors mix well without any one flavor dominating. Very nice - liquid pumpkin pie.

This draft brew from the brewery poured a small sized head of frothy white colored bubbles that was quickly diminishing and left behind a transparent softly carbonated yellow-white colored body. The mild aroma contained pumkin malt notes. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The mild flavor contained notes of malt and pumpkin. A decent one that I would consider buying again. Not overly done. Rtaher tasty. Good job on htis one.

Draft at MBC. Small white head with sparse lacing, minimal carbonation and a pale yellow hue. Nose was a lot of pumpkin, spicy, clove, and nutmeg. Flavor was pumpkin, spicy, somewhat acidic and the flavor of pumpkin really stood out in the flavor. Almost too much IMO. Tingly mouthfeel. Light body. Somewhat over-the-top pumpkin tasting.

On tap at brewery while discussing things beer with the brewmaster and his bro: Pours a golden hue with a small lasting fizzy head. The aroma has notes of nutmeg, coriander, clove, apple butter, apricot, grassy hops, and a hint of vegetable (the pumpkin I believe). The taste is quite mild really, lightly spiced, bitter and caramel malty with a fruit background. The feel is average. Not bad, not your over-the-top pumpkin beer, quaffable.
