Commercial Description:
Kolsch is a style of beer indigenous to northern Germany in the Cologne area. It is a hybrid of an ale and a lager using an ale yeast and lager fermentation conditions. Mishawaka Kolsch is a light golden color with a crisp, refreshing flavor. Brewed using light colored malts and very lightly hopped with Sterling hops.

Tap at brewery: Geez go figure, served way too cold even for a Kölsch, finally after waiting about 20 minutes able to taste. Well it is a bit grainy and has some sweet malt background with almost no bitterness minus a hit of citric twang. Drinakble but hardly to style.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. Bright golden yellow with more haze than I’d expect in a kolsch. Very mild fruity sweet, citrus aroma. The flavor was also very sweet, but still very drinkable. A bit of a drier finish would be ideal. Nice silky body. Middle of the road.

(draught) light-medium gold, almost no head, but nice lace. Malt aroma. Flavor is slightly sweet malt with a citrus hops finish. Maybe they’ve improved the brew - it was much better than what everyone else describes here.

This bottled brew poured a large head of fine to medium sized white colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a fair lace. The body was softly carbonated hazy dark yellow colored and had a lot of seemingly suspended buibbles floating in it. The aroma was funky and off with a lot of horse blanket to it. The mouth feel was mildly malted and astringent. The flavor was somewhat fruity and mostly malty. This was not a great beer and it was had to swallow after the other rather good beers we had that night.

Ewww. Not a good beer at all. Pale, straw colored body with tiny floatees in it. The head was huge at first, but was gone in a flash, leaving nothing on top to speak of, just a foreshadowing of things to come. The aroma, if it can be called that, was horrid, sweaty socks mixed with old vegetables. The flavor matched the aroma, which is not a good thing. Vinegary and sour mixed is not appealing.

Bottle. This beer lacks character and flavor. It poured a small sized white head that was creamy and smooth with fine-medium sized bubbles that quickly diminished. The body was cloudy and uncarbonated with a pale yellow hue. The nose was malty, sweet and some notes of fruit. The flavor was somewhat sour and fruity. It had a smooth mouthfeel and a medium texture. Not recommended.

A sub-standard Kolsch. Lacks the true fruity, yet dry and subtly tangy properties of a Kolsch. It was also served way too cold. Body was thin and the taste perceptions seemed layered upon one another, never quite mixing well and fully pleasing my palate.
