Commercial Description:
Kolsch is a style of beer indigenous to northern Germany in the Cologne area. It is a hybrid of an ale and a lager using an ale yeast and lager fermentation conditions. Mishawaka Kolsch is a light golden color with a crisp, refreshing flavor. Brewed using light colored malts and very lightly hopped with Sterling hops.

Bottle straight from the brewery: Pours a clear pale golden with a small, stringy-lacing wispy white head. Aroma of semi-sweet, grainy pale malts and the slightest hint of fruity esters. Body starts about average for the style with a very mild flavor and grain husk notes before a slightly more bitter and drier crisp finish. Pretty drinkable and close to style, but that’s about it.

Bottle courtesy of stfun. Pours gold and hazy with a huge white head. Smells soapy with touches of light citrus and perfumy. Tastes of citrus and slightly watery (as is fit for this style). A little too lemony for a kolsch, but a nice light drinker.

From the bottle this pours a pale yellow body with a thick fizzy head. The aroma is pale sweet malt and lemon grass. The latter turns into lemon juice in the flavor and dominates the drink. Nothing I’d care to repeat.

Tap at brewery: Geez go figure, served way too cold even for a Kölsch, finally after waiting about 20 minutes able to taste. Well it is a bit grainy and has some sweet malt background with almost no bitterness minus a hit of citric twang. Drinakble but hardly to style.

This bottled brew poured a large head of fine to medium sized white colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a fair lace. The body was softly carbonated hazy dark yellow colored and had a lot of seemingly suspended buibbles floating in it. The aroma was funky and off with a lot of horse blanket to it. The mouth feel was mildly malted and astringent. The flavor was somewhat fruity and mostly malty. This was not a great beer and it was had to swallow after the other rather good beers we had that night.

Bottle. This beer lacks character and flavor. It poured a small sized white head that was creamy and smooth with fine-medium sized bubbles that quickly diminished. The body was cloudy and uncarbonated with a pale yellow hue. The nose was malty, sweet and some notes of fruit. The flavor was somewhat sour and fruity. It had a smooth mouthfeel and a medium texture. Not recommended.

Bottle. Sweet and slightly grainy aroma, not really appealing. Clear golden body is heavily carbonated with a soapy white head. Crisp medium body, slightly oily. Taste is biscuity, bready, and slightly grainy, sweet and malty with a touch of citrus but no hops or bitterness. Can’t call this a Kölsch, but can certainly drink it.

bottle - Poured lightly hazy gold with almost no head. It had a light citrus and malt aroma. The flavor had a considerable citrus character with some sweet malt. I don’t know what happened to the carbonation though at least, despite the unusually high amount of fruit flavor for this style, I don’t think it’s infected. However, this beer makes the third or fourth bottle that I’ve had quality problems with of the eight beers I’ve tried from this brewer. That’s not a good record.
