Commercial Description:
Brewed as an American Pale Ale with large quantities of Oregon Cascade hops and lesser amounts of other hops. A strong but pleasant hop flavor at the start with a smooth hoppy finish. Silver Medal 1995 World Beer Championships. Lake Effect Pale Ale gets its name from the winter storms that develop over Lake Michigan and then drop its moisture in the form of large and numerous snow flakes resulting in snow accumulations up to two feet near the lake and lessening to the east.

Thanks to Bob, Michelle, and mostly my baby Jana for the 12th annual Indiana Microbrewers Festival today! On tap @ the fest. Had to sample this twice to get the Big Boris outta my glass! Nose of malt, spice, pine & citrus, and dried fruit. The brew is a pale straw. The creamy white head is mostly diminishing and leaves light lace. The beer has high acidity with a heavy citrus presence. The finish is long and bitter. The light body is watery and soft. The finish feels crisp.

Found this one bottled at a liquor store in St. John, Indiana, as part of a mix 12 pack of various beers from Indiana brewers. Very citrusy brew overall, with plenty of lemon, lime and grapefruit in the nose and flavor. Pucker-dry finish. Not bad!

On tap: Good Cascade nose and with nice carbonation and head retention. Body is a bit thin, and the hops and malt don't always agree. Finding a better balance between malt and hops (I suggest adding more speciality malts) would improve this popular style.

Bottle courtesy of stfun. Pours copper with a white head. Smells citrussy with some earthy malt. Tastes of dry malt, pepper, some spicy hints. Mouthfeel is full with a dry finish.

Cloudy brighter-golden pour with a nice 1/4"-1/2" white head. Nice lacing as it went down. Very pleasant aroma of citrus and pine hops.. with a sweet malt component. Weak on the front of the palate, but the hops come through toward the middle. Nice light-medium caramel malt backbone. Bitter on the finish, but the flavors aren’t so clear.

Sample from a bomber; poured a copper color with a medium white head. Aroma wasn’t too strong, but what was there was citrus, must and caramel. Flavor was citrus and lemon in the finish; a decent caramel/lightly toasted malt background. Average example of the style.

A golden apperance with on this one. The aroma contains some grapefruit and lemons. The flavor is somewhat bitter with some lemons, grapefruit, and a grassy type flavor. Overall this a lemon bomb though. Not bad but nothing amazing
