Commercial Description:
Loopy Lupilin Double IPA is named for the effect it will have on you (make you loopy) and for Lupilin which is the gland in the middle of the hop flower. It is yellow to deep yellow in color and provides essential oils and hard & soft resins. When these oils and resins are boiled in the beer they give you bitterness, hop flavor and aroma. In Loopy Lupilin we used a very high amount of hops (almost insane amounts!) Combined with the 9.2% alc by vol this beer will definitely make you Loopy. Estimated IBU's 95-100.

On tap at the brewpub. Slightly hazy amber pour. Aroma of citrus and pine. Nice and malty upfront with a blast citrus and grapefruit on the finish. Nice lingering bitterness.

Draft sample at Back Road Fall Fest 2007. Poured clear copper color with an average fizzy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Heavy sour citrus hoppy and small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with slick texture. Medium bittersweet caramel flavor with a medium bitter finish of moderate duration. Better than my expectations.

On tap at the Backroad Fall Fest, and served in a shaker. This beer poured a clear orangish copper color with a good sized beige head that faded away very slow. Some good lacing was left around the glass. The aroma was made up of grapefruit, pineapple, orange, and some light caramel. The flavor remained true with a light underlying bready malt note. The mouthfeel was sticky and full-bodied with light carbonation. A pretty decent brew from Mishawaka. One of their best.

Sample at Indiana Microbrewers Festival - Aroma of strong earthy and citrus hops and a nice malt back. Pours transparent dark yellow with a small head. Flavor matches aroma with the hops striking first only to be overwhelmed by the strong malt presence that dominates this intense brew. Palate is very sticky. It isn’t often the malts can compete, let alone dominate an IIPA. This is still a tasty brew.

Bottle... Almost clear, amber ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. Fruity aroma provides notes of pineapple, caramel, grapefruit and pine. Fruity, sticky-sweet flavor. Huge, chewy malt backbone that the 100 IBU hops just can’t cut into. Leans way too far onto the sweet side of balance; cloyingly sweet as it warms. Full-bodied and creamy with soft carbonation. Bitter-sweet finish. Bottle courtesy of BBB63. Thanks Mike!

Bottle: Courtesy of BBB63. Lots of pineapple, moderate citrus hops, and light pine in the aroma. Pours a transparent orange with a small off-white head. Lots of pineapple and fruitiness up front with a nice big citrus hopped finish. Well balanced and hides the alcohol very well.

BBB63 happened to have a bottle hanging around. Very pretty light amber, even yellow. White head and some lace. Looked very thin and watery though. The aroma was pure Juicy Fruit, or maybe some Fruit Stripe gum. The flavor is more of the same. Bananas and citrus. Really thin palate. This is easily one of the best Mishawaka has put out in a long time.
