Silphium (2114), Haslett, Michigan, USA Sep 19, 2005 Sampled at the Ohio Labor Day gathering, provided by BBB63. Light copper body, medium off-white head. Light, bready, slightly floral aroma. Bready body with bitter, earthy hops and slight sweetness; alcohol was evident in the flavor. Decent, but nothing special. I’m not sure I would have called this a California Common. BBB63 (4198), La Porte, Indiana, USA Aug 6, 2005 Tap at brewery:
Slightly hazed deep amber hue with a small frothy almost nitro like head and produced very good lace. The aroma has notes of juicy and floral hops, bready malts, hints of citrus, and dusty yeast esters, a bit too faint. The taste starts with a sharp noble bitterness with grapefruit and apple notes supported by a grainy malt flavor. Light pepper undertone on the finish, it is a one trick pony. The feel is sharp and lively with an astrengent and dry finish. An okay brew but nothing like most common beers I have had.
