Commercial Description:
Seven Mules is our version of a summer Barleywine, with a high alcohol content and a light color and body. Seven Mules is named after the offensive linemen on Notre Dame’s 1924 football team that featured the Four Horsemen. Like its namesake, Seven Mules will kick your ass if you don’t treat it with respect.

Bottle from the brewpub; amber/copper in color, forget about the head. Aroma was consistant with a fairly typical barleywine; alcohol, malt, caramel, fruit and toffee. Flavor left a lot to be desired. Mildly sweet and bitter. It just seemed a bit unrefined and lacking balance. A pretty poor example of the style in my opinion.

12 oz bottle from ucusty, thanks Dave. Pours a deep orange/amber with a large white foamy head. Aroma of alcohol, grain, rye, wet grass and earth. Medium to full bodied with noticable alcohol warming and average carbonation. Flavor of grain, alcohol, fruit rind and malts. Great name, great bottle, hoping for a great buzz from the 10.5%.

bottle from ucusty. clear amber colored pour with a completely and quickly disappearing white head. aroma is very malty with hints of orange, woodiness, brown sugar and floral hops. the palate is rather sweet with a boozy finish which leaves a warm glow in the belly. flavors of sweetened orange, brown sugar, citrus pith, grassy/wood hops all noted. lightly bitter finish. medium body. slick uninspiring mouth feel with a ’flat’ texture. not terrible just boring.

Bottle labeled "Seven Mules Kick Ass Ale: Pale golden pour with a small, dense and creamy beige head. Nose is malty and floral, little bits of rye. Malty and floral, some grassey notes. Kinda has that dirty dandelion feel. A bit out of sync. Sort of abrasive and not well balanced. Not very kick ass.

Poured a hazy light orange-copper color with a medium but quickly diminishing off-white head. The beer looked thick during the pour. Sweet fruity (light fruits) malt and a little citrus hop underneath. Citrus and fruity flavor. Some sweetness with a semi-dry and moderately bitter finish. Medium bodied. As the beer warmed more fruitiness came out. The alcohol is mostly hidden with a touch of pepper on the finish. Not as bad as others might suggest.

thick amber color, nice off-white head. aroma is distinctly non-ale-ish tart fruit flavor. i caught no evidence of the high alcoholic content in the flavor. after the beer warmed, i caught licorice and leather in the finish. full-bodied. maybe i didn’t get the alcohol in this beer because this was my 4th or 5th big beer this afternoon, and i am completely numb. i’ll let my rating stand anyway.

A pack of mules on the label, and the aroma SMELLS like a pack of wet mules...damn its bad!! If you can get past the aroma of this one, you might like this one OK. It is nothing exceptional, but does have an alright flavor. Kind of thick and syrupy for a strong ale. Tastes like caramel, malt, with a hint of dark fruit and copper. Alcohol is hidden well, but warms you up as you sip. Not terrible, but not one I’d rush out to drink again.
