Commercial Description:
Seven Mules is our version of a summer Barleywine, with a high alcohol content and a light color and body. Seven Mules is named after the offensive linemen on Notre Dame’s 1924 football team that featured the Four Horsemen. Like its namesake, Seven Mules will kick your ass if you don’t treat it with respect.

Wow. This was a treat. Dark pour color. Not a lot of alcohol found in the taste, which was great. Good hops as well. I found that after a drink, it leaves some dryness in your mouth which makes you take another and another drink. At 10.5% that could be a little dangerous. Loved it. Wonderful.

A decent head with an amber-orange color, this beer has a lightly-hopped, malty aroma, with a sweet flavor, almost akin to caramel and fruit.

This draft brew from the brewery poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a slightly hazy orange brown colored body and a very good lacing. The mild aroma was malt hop. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and strongly tingly at the finish. The strong flavor contained notes of malt and hops. A wonderful best in class brew. This brew has a kick to it! Two mugs and you are feeling it! Very potent stuff!

Courtesy of Wohlfs. pours dark golden with ring of film. Aroma is dominated by very sweet candy sugar, some fruity and floral notes as well. Flavor much the same with too big of an alcohol presence IMO, subtracts from the score a little. Very well done, would be in the low 4’s without the alcohol kick. Should probably subtract for the "tarnished dome" reference in the description also, but I am feeling nice today. "Hail to the Victors"!!

My bottle reads Seven Mules Kick-Ass Ale. The description calls it the brewer’s "version of a summer Barleywine," so I’m not sure why it’s called an American Strong Ale on the site, especially given its flavor and high ABV. I’m siding with the brewery, the folk who intended this to be a barley wine, on this one. Anywho - it pours a light golden amber body with a creamy white head that laces in slippery sheets. The aroma is light malts with a pad of butter and some floral bitterness. The flavor is a sweet fruity malt balanced by a citric zest bitterness that lingers long into the finish. Except for its quick warming effect, the alcohol remains well hidden. Not complex, but a very drinkable and enjoyable barley wine styled ale.

Not very dark for a strong ale. Nice hops. Interesting that they call it a summer barleywine, maybe the high alcohol percentage is the reason. I could, however, drink a few of these on a summer day. Bought this bottle in a shop in West Lafayette, IN. Too bad it was the only bottle.

Bottle: Honey hued with a short lived head but oily tears, some lace. The aroma has notes of fig, strawberry, honeydew, belgian candi sugar, floral and earthy esters, and vinous phenols. The taste starts candy sweet and noticeable malt backgorund. A good amount of hop bitters and spice keep it from becoming cloy. The feel is slightly sticky, astringent at the end. I like it and it is the one Mishawaka beer that truly could use some aging.

pours a straw color w/ visable carbonation and a full fluffy well laced head. Aroma is remiiscent of a wheat wine, defiante alcohol notes light fruits candied sugars a light grass. Palate is full well coated and sticky w/ an oily resin on the tongue. Flavor is a nice oily bitterness that lingers and puckers the tongue a little some decent citrus and grass notes light alcohol w/ a very piney finish. Not a lot of sweetness in this and the 10.5% is well hidden.
