Pailhead (2572), Allen Park, Michigan, USA Jul 30, 2006 Bottle: Courtesy of BBB63. Piney, citrusy, and flowery hop aroma with a hint of fruit. There’s something else there that I can’t pinpoint which is throwing things off. Pours a dark transparent amber with a moderate off-white head with decent retention. Flavor starts with fruit, caramel, and a light yeastiness up front. Piney and flowery hopped finish for a nice balance. Soft carbonation. Very tastey, but whatever that is in the aroma just throws things off. BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jul 13, 2006 Yep yet another IPA from Mishawaka Brewing (and still awaiting the re-release for HopHead): Poured into my Goose Island IPA tulip and it displayed a rich amber hue (an IPA?), topped by a creamy off-white head and excellent lacing.
The nose detects a citric and piney hop presence along with bready and toffee malt vapors. Some earthy and grassy esters noted as well.
The taste is more IPAish than the eyes let on. Clean moderate hop bitterness supported by a twist of grapefruit and apple. Some bready and sweet malt undertones, even a touch of pepper and clove upon the finish. Well rounded palate just short of outstanding.
The feel is a tad fizzy at first but there is enough body to support the flavor profile. A bit of astrengent finish.
A solid offering, enjoying.
