Commercial Description:
Our award winning Hefeweizen is one of the breweries most popular selections. Unlike the lemon-laden wheat beers that flood market today, Mission Hefeweizen is a true example of a classic Bavarian Hefeweizen - exhibiting a wonderful bouquet of clove, banana, pear, among other aromas and flavors which make this beer a refreshing and full flavored brew. Make no mistake – there is no fruit in this beer. The complex and flavorful character of our Hefeweizen is achieved by the authentic Bavarian yeast strain employed in its production. 15 IBU

650 ml bottle from bev4less. Pours a cloudy yellow with no head. The aroma is moderate in strength with citrus, mild banana and clove spices. The flavor is murky citrus (mostly lemons) with light cloves and a bit of dust. The palate is thin and oily. The finish is short with lemons. Overall: Ordinary hefe wih way too much citrus. I think that I had an old bottle, note to self--look for this fresh.

Bonus bottle from SnoJerk321. Thanks! The aroma on this one is of light banana, clove, and a good deal of lemon. Pours hazy orange yellow with absolutely no head and lace into my weizen glass. Flavor is lemony and light banana/sweet clove notes. Zesty carbonation. I would probably be more into this if it were less tart and citrusy.

Bomber from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours a slightly hazy yellow/gold with a small white head. Aromas of yeast and citrus. Medium body with sharpish carbonation. Flavors are clove, yeast, arguably citrus, revealing banana. Somehow it seems a bit gummy to me. Not bad, but not really tasty.

Another beer at JW77’s July 4th party. Cloudy yelllow pour, fluffy light head. Lots of yeast, banana, clove in the nose and carries right into the flavor. Not bad, not amazing.

Bomber from Country Club Liquors. Hazy yellow with a medium pale yellow head. Nose is banana, cloves, and a light bubblegum note. Flavor is banana, wheaty grain, and slight sweetness. Decent hefe but could be much bigger to be a great hefe.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy, orange-yellow body with a discouragingly small-sized, fizzy, white head. No amount of vigorous swirling can seem to resuscitate it. Smell: Tangy-scented wheat aroma with supporting notes of citrus, dried banana chips, clove, and one solitary drop of vanilla. Taste: Tangy malted wheat taste with some crisp graininess and a full dose of sugary sweetness. Sure, it’s a bit on the sweet side for a hefeweizen, but I’ll let that slide. Touches of faintly tart citrus, banana, and lightly spicy clove follow. Very minimal amount of hop bitterness. Then, it’s back to the citrus, banana, vanilla blend giving a suggestion of a smoothie, in terms of flavor. Lightly effervescent, dry finish with a lasting hint of tangy wheat and spice. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation. Slight smooth, creamy wheat-bolstered mouthfeel. Drinkability: Worth a try. I’d say a little work on the appearance is in order, but otherwise it’s a fairly enjoyable, easy drinking hefe.
