12oz bottle: Pours to a clear medium amber colored body with a medium white head that quickly fades. The aroma shows some hints of a sugary red clover nectar, light caramel malt, fruity hops and a bit of ripe grapefruit hop scent. The taste is playful hops that alternate between ripe, sweet grapefruit, to bitter grass, to fruity apricot and pear notes, well-balanced by some caramel malt and pale malt sweetness. Light bodied, medium carbonation, finishes with mild bitter hops and a residual mild grapefruit rind bitterness that clings to the sides of the mouth. I imagine some on here might knock this beer because it’s not hoppy enough, although this beer is brewed near perfect to style - my only complaint would be the small diameter of the filter, which does give it nice clarity but also hurts the body and the head just a bit. Nice beer.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Trader Joes (Short Pump), 12/11/09

Aroma: The nose has a nice citrus/orange, resin, floral, hoppy feel to it
Appearance: Pours a just a little cloudy orange color with a thin white head
Flavor: Taste is mildly sweet, medium bitter, decently balanced
Palate: This one has a medium body and average carbonation
Overall Impression: This is a pretty solid IPA. A nice, somewhat standard IPA-like flavor to it. At the price point, this is a really good choice in my opinion, you don’t get many beers this solid and true to style for the excellent prices offered at Trader Joe’s.

Pour is a hazy orange with a small white head, Aroma is a nice pure crisp hop. Flavor is again more hops and a slight touch of the malt. The brewer was deffinatly going for the hops aspect in this one. A very well done IPA and probably the second best trader joe’s beer i have had next to the vintage ale.

12oz bottle, purchased from Trader Joes. Pours a bright, clear orange-amber color; mixed-bubbled off-white head with good retention and patchy lacing. Pleasant aroma of resiny, earthy hops and oranges; reasonably dry with a very pleasant hop character: juicy, resins, floral and fresh; somewhat light at first, opens up as it warms. Medium mouthfeel: following the aroma, this shows lots of resiny oranges and earthiness upfront; some floral notes; a non-astringent, zesty and pleasant hop character throughout; soft malt core that stays in the background; a highly drinkable, resiny, generous IPA; I think I might heart Firestone Walker... is that weird? Lengthy, smooth finish of continued resiny earthy hops and citrus, with some nice toastiness appearing; solidly dry ending.

While decent and drinkable, I found this to be a fairly unremarkable IPA. The key feature was a medium hoppiness, with little depth or complexity. This same hoppiness was present in the nose, the flavor, and the finish. Not bad, mind you, but nothing to make me want a second tasting.

12oz bottle 12/2/09 (Trader Joe’s-Naperville)-Pours a hazy orangish amber with with a small white ring for a head. Aroma of hops, citrus, and slight malt. Taste of the same with a strong bitterness on the back end. This medium bodied brew is pretty well balanced and tasty especially considering the price.

12 oz bottle from Trader Joes - Pours a copper color with foamy white and lively carbonation. Citrus hops and biscuit malt in the aroma. Citrus hops well balanced by juicy malt on the palate. Long finish becomes dry. Very nice, easy to drink, inexpensive brew.

Malty, almost cereal like aroma with very faint hops. A similar body that wasn’t as hoppy as the pale ale.

Bubbly light copper color. White head. Citrusy and flowery hops in the aroma. A very heavy citrus taste, mostly of lemon. Not that hoppy for a IPA. Really spicy taste present throughout. Good medium body. Pretty good for a cheap-o Trader Joe’s beer.
