Commercial Description:
Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan." In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.

1 quart bottle- pours out a dark golden brown with a fat tan head that left good lacing for the entire glass. Aroma was sharp with sweet caramel. Taste was mild coffee and caramel with a pleasant sweet bite, slightly thin on the palate. NOTE: I avoided this brew for some time due to the "gimmicky" bottle, I was wrong. This beer can hold it’s own with far more expensive brews. Give the bottle to the kids.

Give me a Guinness and Bass and forget the rest. Fairly dark brown. Tastes like a run of the mill brown beer. Nothing outstanding and nothing awful. Fun bottle for sure.

Clear amber colour with a small off white head. Malty, caramel sweet aroma with grain and grassy notes. Caramel sweet flavor with some fruity notes and a light grassy finish.

This is the coolest bottle ever. Looks like a 19th century jug with a class finger sized handle. Had this in 2001. Nice, dark, and malty.

A- Dark brown with a nice big, thick and chunky head. Not nearly as dark as I was excepting for something called Mississippi Mud but looks good none the less. S- The smell is sweet, slightly floral with a bit of a mettalic tinge. I have no idea what to expect from such a mild smell. T- The taste is very light and slightly sweet. Maybe I have the name in my head too much but I could swear there is a slight muddy dirt taste with a metallic aftertaste. While it’s not quite as bad tasting as the description i’ve provided I certainly did not enjoy it. Very little flavor and the flavor it did have rubbed me the wrong way. M- This brew is thin and fizzy. D- I suppose this is fairly drinkable since it is so light but it definitely doesnt leave me running back for more.

Bottle. 120cl. [Tasting @ Ølbaren, Copenhagen]. Clear medium amber color with a average, frothy, fair - good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, grain, bread, dust. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. (110308)

32oz bottle. This is THE classic American Black and Tan if you ask me. The bottle is so cool that you typically end up drinking straight from it instead of pouring into a glass. The color is a chestnut brown, pretty transparent when held to light. The aroma is mildly sweet and simple. The taste is quite multi-faceted, truly capturing qualities of the pilsener’s crisp hoppy mouthfeel, and the porter’s rich, chocolaty sweetness. Very underrated beer.
