Commercial Description:
Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan." In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.

transparent tark brown w/ grey tan head small roasted coffee aroma med body and carbonation for a porter. very malty with some chocolate and roast coffee. some wine character. not anything special but inoffensive for the price (a quart for 2.50)

Rated 8/19/06: Clever jug and label which holds a rather boring brew. I had trouble picking up any kind of aroma. Color is a medium deep amber with a thin light tan head and ample lacing. Mouthfeel is rather thin but the finish is clean. The flavor is enjoyable but not at all robust. The flavor starts off as a plain lager but finishes with some roasted sweetness barely reminding me that some porter is supposed to be in here. I’m sure most people can’t resist picking up a jug but the novelty soon wears off.

Bottle, 32 oz, Nose of caramel and grainy malt with a slight coffee note; clear medium brown with a big beige head that laces the glass; lagery flavor with graininess, and only a light caramel touch. Looks better than it tastes, but still beats a macro!

Cool looking jug bottle. That’s about it. Dark brown, sawdust colored head. roasted malt aroma. Nasty first sip with gag reflex and head spins, blagh. tastes like a basic dark lager. honey flavored. malty finish. nothing special, but a cool bottle. (Bonus points for that in Appearance) Used the rest for cooking with.

Pours a transparent dark copper ruby, possibly the lightest porter I’ve seen, with a spotty-lacing froth of light tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet pale and Vienna malts with a mild touch of DMS and earthy hops. Body starts fairly watery and thin with hardly any distinctive flavors other than some wet cardboard. Blah...

Faux ceramic jug. Poured dark red with a little brown head. Sweet malty aroma, hints of caramel and chocolate. Smooth flavor, malty, sweet, notes of caramel and cocoa. Nothing amazing, but worth a try.
