Commercial Description:
Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan." In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.

pours a nice brown . Not a strong aroma for a black and tan. bits of carmel, Tasted watery to be called a black and tan. Not a very memorable beer except for the bottle. Maybe that is the point

Pours reddish brown with a nice little white head. Smells sweet and metallic. I taste the coffee and roast at first and then it is cleansed away by the pilsner side. Finishes with a metallic aftertaste. It seems like a decent blend though, but I like my B&T’s darker.

I suppose not bad overall. Bit of a caramel taste, did have a nice bit of bitter after taste. It was something to drink, seemed to be a pretty good blend.

The bottle poured a clear, reddish brown beverage with an average sized off-white fizzy head that was fully diminishing and left very little lacing on the glass. The aroma was almost not there at all. Upon very close inspection, however I was able to detect light cookie malt and light floral hop aromas. The body was light to medium with a dry texture and lively carbonation. The flavor started out with a light sweetness but that changed to a moderate bitter finish. The finish was average in length and had a moderate astringent character with a light bit of alcohol warmth.

Clear brownish red with a quickly fading white head. Lots of (unintentional?) apple in the nose with some caramel. Flavor also has an apple presence with notes of toffee, caramel and a tiny hing of chocolate. Moderately sweet, not much bitterness. Medium body with medium carbonation. Eh.

This interestingly bottled beer poured a deep red/brown with a white/tan head. It had a medium sweet semi-malty aroma. The taste was creamy and malty smooth and light despite the title.

My friend Noel got me a bottle of this. Was expecting the worst but got a decent beer, I suppose. POurs a light brown with a foamy and rich tan head. Nose is surprisingly sweet and malty with lots of caramel notes and light hints of chocolate cake. Taste is like a weak doppelbock and a wtaery porter blended. More caramel notes, thinned choco notes, sweet malts and very light bitterness. Some faint nuttiness at times, as well. Body is light and creamy with mild carbonation. Finishes with thinned bittersweet malt notes, light cocoa and caramel. Not bad at all!

Jug shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry & tupalev - courtesy of HogTownHarry. OK, so we all know that the jug is the best thing about this beer, but I guess I’ll type up my notes anyway. Ruby-brown colour with a small, quickly disappearing head. Aroma is odd but not unpleasant - notes of chocolate, caramel, and some herbal notes that I couldn’t quite place. Body is watery, and the flavour is bland and simple, like a very weak porter or nut brown. Finish is dead and a little metallic. Bleh.
