Commercial Description:
Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan." In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.

Jug shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Are there really people out there who single handedley drink a whole one of these things to themselves? Yikes. Pours a clear bubbly dark amber with an average size diminishing off-white head. Mediocre aroma of sweet malt and nuts. Flavour is a bland, watery, nutty, roasty mess with an unpleasant metallic aftertaste. Thin bodied. Black & Tan? Definitely more "Tan" than "Black" and definitely not a Porter. If you need a jug then this is the beer to get, otherwise don’t bother.

Bottle? Jug? (32oz). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and tupalev - my, uh, jug. Poured clear deep copper with a huge lasting foamy buckwheat head. Aroma not offensive, raspberry, wheat flour and sweetgrass. Taste is very watery, some stale roast malt, slightly sour grassy grains and lots of metal - mouthfeel quite harsh and flat. Cool bottle, waste of a pour otherwise - as tupalev said, like a thin watery porter or nutbrown - bleh.

Shared with Harry, blankboy, and gregclow, thanks Harry. Semi-sweet aroma. a little nutty. Dark brown, small tan head. Taste was a little like a nut brown, only very watery, thin, and bland. There was an ok lingering sweetness, but it also tasted stale and metallic. Very watered down and not terribly enjoyable.

Picked up a bottle of this at the local Publix for only $2.59. I wondered why this was so cheap for 32 oz., then I tasted it and found out. Wow, this was a way below average porter masquerading as a black and tan. Ick. Buy for the funny bottle, but drain pour the beer. Just awful.

Received as a Christmas gift. This was hard to get down. Tasted nothing like a black and tan. Very watery. Tasted like old coffee that had burnt then someone added water to. Not recommended.

This beer tasted like it was dipped right out of the Great Mississippi river. The bottel was Great but the beer WAS NOT.

"UGH UGH UGH oh and one more UGH Poured a light brown color. Aroma was kind of bland. Flavor, bitter like 2 day old coffee some grass. Aftertaste was just plain awful, i made it through about 3 ozs of this and then donated it to the sewer. Cool bottle"

From the bottle, pours a very dark amber, with almost no head to speak of. Malty aroma, with a hint of cherries. From the taste, I know where it got its name from. Mud. Hard to describe other than that, but I guess there’s some burnt malt and day old coffee, kinda bitter aftertaste. If I had realized this is the same brewer as Saranac beers, I probably wouldn’t have tried it. I was excited to try it because of its moonshine-jug-like bottle, but alas, I was a victim of marketing.
