Flavor, bitter like 2 day old coffee some grass. Aftertaste was just plain awful, i made it through about 3 ozs of this and then donated it to the sewer. Cool bottle" Scubatrip (388), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/20 | Jan 19, 2006 From the bottle, pours a very dark amber, with almost no head to speak of. Malty aroma, with a hint of cherries. From the taste, I know where it got its name from. Mud. Hard to describe other than that, but I guess there’s some burnt malt and day old coffee, kinda bitter aftertaste. If I had realized this is the same brewer as Saranac beers, I probably wouldn’t have tried it. I was excited to try it because of its moonshine-jug-like bottle, but alas, I was a victim of marketing. | 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jan 8, 2006 Cool jug, disappointing beer. More like an brownish pilsner. Imagine a wimpy porter heavily diluted in a Miller-Lite with some FDA food coloring added to make it darker. It’s muddy like a New Jersey taco is spicy. Overpriced. Sold in a clear bottle, it wouldn’t bring $4 a six. LePoopie (151), Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Jan 7, 2006 Has a dark amber color, looks like cola, with almost no head. Has a decent roasty aroma. Very weak flavor... if this was given to me unknowingly in an unlabeled glass, I’d think it was watered down old coffee. OK body, but really no carbonation. This is not my cup of mud. | 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jan 3, 2006 Pours an interesting dark amber color (I was expecting darker for a BLACK and tan) with a slightly yellow head. Aroma of hops and chocolate with some maltiness. Very thin flavor and body for what I expected.
Interesting bottle, not an interesting beer. CapFlu (3491), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 30, 2005 (946ml bottle) Purchased at the LB Store in Moose Jaw, SK, for $6.28. Pours a large, frothy, yellowish head with a surprisingly copper colour. Nose of a fairly hoppy and sour chocolate aroma. Flavour oily, thin and hoppy for a porter? It actually misses much of the roasted malt and coffee flavours. Hmm... masedawg (156), Statesville, North Carolina, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 29, 2005 Mississippi must have red clay because this "mud" is a dark amber. Aroma suggests a very malty brew, but taste suprises with a decent hop character. Nothing overwhelming here, but worth a shot if you are just grabbing a beer. ebarnes (214), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 27, 2005 LIttle brown jug. That’s probably the best thing about this beer. Not horrible, but REAL black & tans are much better.
