| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jun 25, 2005 Deep dark red color with a nice white head that lasted till the last drop. I thought this was a good example of a black & tan, as if it were guinnes and bass. The only downfall was the red color which made it taste a little like a red ale which I hate. But overall for a $2 pint it really wasn’t bad at all. Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jun 23, 2005 This poured a reddish brown color. I’ll add one to the appearance points just for the hillbilly jug bottles. A faint chocolate and caramel aroma. The flavor is rather weak with some caramel and raisins. I would expect a beer called Mississippi Mud to be a thick stout not a watery black and tan. I dont think this is what Hank III was refering to when he said he liked to get pure drunk in that Mississippi Mud. Overall I’d put this in the league of Killians. Cola laden aroma. Has a an orange tinged tan color similar to a darker IPA. Sports a two finger thick, diminishing, tan head. Watery fore is followed by grapey notes with a lot of malt sweetness. To me this a brown aleand tastes like a brown ale. Not worthy of the porter name.

Bland, flacid, lifeless and why the heck is a company in Uttica, new York making Mississippi Mud? Somebody get a rope! beerbill (1973), Laurel, New York, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | May 29, 2005 If points were awarded for packaging, this brew would rate higher. The beer itself was a disappointment. Very little aroma and a weak head. The color is a reddish brown, way too light for a real black and tan. Overly carbonated and weak on flavor. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 17, 2005 I confess to being taken in by the packaging--I love this oversize bottle (I took off the plastic label and saved the jug for around-the-house use), though the beer inside wasn’t great. Moderate amber color (it is really unfair to call this a porter, if you’re so inclined because of the base), and substantially carbonated. General malty profile and rather simple, at times giving a more substantial hop character than a roasted one. But even then, it is pretty tame. Still, drinkable and kind of good in way--having a nice big 32 ounce jug you are inclined to think of this as an "around the house"/after lawnmowing beer, rather than a beer to savor.
