Commercial Description:
Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan." In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.

Aroma: Roasted Barley/coffee Appearance: Dark color almost black Flavor was a bit dissapointing, considering the price. Needs more black (IMHO) It is a good, clean pour with just a hint of afterburner. Most "college boys" won’t touch it, so I can usually find it. Not my first choice in a brew, but it makes for a nice brew.

Probably the most recognizable beers made. Smells roasty. Tastes roasty, with chocolate and a kind of sour tinge. Not bad. Could use more black and less tan.

Great packaging drew me to buy this beer. The screw-top on the jug is an additional plus if you have any leftovers. Has a lightly sweet caramel aroma. Body color is a transparent brown, like a watered down porter. A creamy tan head doesn’t last long and doesn’t leave much of a trail. Flavor starts sweetly malty but ends a little sour. Watery texture. Might work if you’re looking for a darker beer on a hot day. Not bad. Not great.

Deep red color. Not what I was expecting. I guess I was expecting something the consistency of used motor oil to ooze from the bottle. Big fluffy head, pour with caution or you’ll end up waiting a couple days before you even get to try your beer. More hops in the nose than in the mouth. A watery mouthfeel for a B&T. If I hadn’t read the label, I’d have thought I was drinking a dark-colored amber lager. Really, there isn’t all that much flavor. A few roasted malt notes, and a slight hop pungency.

Got this tonight at my corner Osama store. Poured a dark amber with a thick brown head.Watery malty aroma. Flavor isnt to bad, watery light sweet malts and maybe a little smoke. Has a metalic taste as it sits on the palate. Not to bad but I wont be getting this one again.

First off, the name has nothing to do with the brew, you think mud and you think a thick beer, right....not here. Anyway pours out the color of a watered down jack and coke, with a little head. It has a decent aroma that is sweet and roasty. The flavor is decent with notes of malt and brown sugar with a terrible palate, not bad, but there is a lot better

I used to sample this quite a bit in the early days of my beery investigations...the quirky bottle (quart-sized moonshine jug, this time), the cool label and graphics, and perhaps I was new to the various styles available, although I’d gotten my feet wet enough with some stouts...I try it again, now, with much more beer experience behind me... Appearance: dark violet, nearly black color, with a big, bubbly, creamy, frothy white (?) head. Aroma: nullish, and nottish, full of nothing but nothing, creamy, maybe, but offering nothing else...soft and sweet Taste...rather light, and insipid...blah...light, slightly fruity, but far too light..bland and brittle, nothing to it... I have to admit my resistance and reluctance towards the "black and tan" style. and this particular brew is doing nothing to change that.I like my stouts STOUT, dammit!, and possessing some flavor, and this showed very little...it was a chore to finish this bottle, no joy at all! Far too light in body, texture, flavor, everything! Will not return to this one again!

I have always been a fan of the black and tan drink, it is fun to go to a good draft bar (like Hannah Flannagan’s in Hendersonville, NC) and make them mix up different varieties. This is a good bottled representation of the mixture. Anyway it is a great smooth drinking, party type beer. Good price and smooth going down. If you want a rich flavored beer, that is smooth initially and stays smooth on the tongue, take a chance on a New York brewed Mississippi named party drink!
