Commercial Description:
Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan." In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.

Bottle. Nose is mild with some grapefruit. Amber body with a thick fluffy off-white head. Notes of smoke, raisin, plum, and malt come through. Finish is smooth and clean and smokey. Not bad at all.

This beer is dark amber color with a tan head. A slight aroma of choclate with a light dunkel flavor.

I’m giving this one higher marks than most folks. The packaging/gimmick is corny, almost offensive, but the beer itself is damn good. Kind of like a mild dunkel. Porter is the wrong category for this jug beer. Better than some dunkels, as a matter of fact.

I can’t believe this stuff is only 20th percentile. I paid $3 for a QUART of this stuff and I thought it was delicious. A black and tan that tastes this good and is cheap enough to drink all the time deserves a bit more respect.

Attractive darkened amber with large foaming head. Aroma of caramelized malts, a mild dose of spicy hops. Barest hint of chocolate in the nose, which comes through better on the palate, with a semi-dry finish. Generally balanced and clean featuring malts. Medium bodied and quaffable. Certainly not complex but still rather pleasant and a fine enough session beer. It may be a blend of pilsner and porter, but it sure could pass itself off as an oscura lager. Rerate: tastes more like a weakened porter.

Sweet malty nose, copper, small tan head. Watered down chocolate flavour with a smidge of malt. Very thin, nothing special save for the little Beverly Hillbillies jug!
