Commercial Description:
Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan." In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.

Attractive darkened amber with large foaming head. Aroma of caramelized malts, a mild dose of spicy hops. Barest hint of chocolate in the nose, which comes through better on the palate, with a semi-dry finish. Generally balanced and clean featuring malts. Medium bodied and quaffable. Certainly not complex but still rather pleasant and a fine enough session beer. It may be a blend of pilsner and porter, but it sure could pass itself off as an oscura lager. Rerate: tastes more like a weakened porter.

Sweet malty nose, copper, small tan head. Watered down chocolate flavour with a smidge of malt. Very thin, nothing special save for the little Beverly Hillbillies jug!

I’ve always thought these bottles were interesting so I finally picked one up. I feel a jug band in the making. Slightly dry, roasty notes and an inkling of a hop bite. Run of the mill.

Deep copper color with a lacing tan head. Light aroma. Not what I would expect for a Porter. Malty aroma. Caramely taste. Sweet too. Not too bad, but, still lacking heavily. Bought this bottle at Total Wine in Manassas, VA.

Sweet caramel licorice flavour, a little watery, very light on the hops. The more you

I personally didn’t think this was very bad at all. Coffee, Roasty, Smokey in the nose and flavor.

Dark brwon colo, huge medium diminishing head. Sweet malt nose. Light malt taste - but only if you try hard to taste it

A porter? Are you f-ing kidding me? It was amber colored! This has the characteristics of a decent pale, but definitely not a porter. Some decent carbonation. Additional appearance points for the sweet bottle.
