Flavor: same rich smoked chocolate flavor, a bit lighter on the earthyness, a bit more dark caramel sweetness sneaks through adding more balance,

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 10, 2008 Bottle acquired in trade. Poured a dark black, with brown edges, and a large sized off white head. Aromas of lighter smoke, camp fire ashes, chocolate, and roast. Tastes of smoke (not too much, but more than the aromas), chocolate, roast, caramel, and had a coffee bitter finish. Smoke was there, but on the softer side. Would be a good smoked beer to use as an introduction to someone who’s never had one. CaptainCougar (5534), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Sweet, lightly smoked, dark chocolatey aroma has a touch of earthy hops. Body starts with nice sweet dark caramel maltiness revealing a smooth, bittersweet dark chocolate flavor. A nice smoked porter. heemer77 (4312), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 8, 2008 Tap at the brewery. I tried both the stronger version and the lighter smoked version. The body was black with an orangeish colored head. Strong notes of smoke and wood come trhough. Also some apples come to play. The taste was smoky wood with some apple and lots of malt. There was also some chocolate. A surprisingly bitter finish. goldtwins (4085), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 5, 2007 Draft. Poured a hazy dark brown color with a small tan head. Light smokey notes over roasted malt. Hint of chocolate as well. The flavor was mildly smokey with lightly tart roasted malt. Decent bitter finish. Sammy (4065), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 2, 2008 Pours black with minimal head. Fresh from the brewery, thanks Bobby! A bit of smoke in the aroma, mostly smells like a porter. Taste, not thinnish, but poor indeed compared to the vertical of a smoked imperial porter. The smoke is there and constrained. A bit cola carbonated. Average taste and average porter all around. Suttree (2743), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 2, 2008 I will always be a sucker for the aroma of a smoked beer. This one smells great - in addistion to the smoke aroma, there is a definate hint of coffee. Flavor is very much a breakfast in a glass kind thing - coffee and bacon, all in one. Very enjoyable and tasty. ChainGangGuy (2616), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 2, 2008 Updated: Jan 6, 2009Appearance: Pours an opaque, dark brown body with a medium-sized, off-white head.
Smell: Subtle meaty smokiness enveloping an aroma of dark malt, cocoa powder, licorice, and prunes.
Taste: Dark maltiness, mildly sweet, and a full (though never overblown) taste of sooty smoke and roast. Integrated fruit and licorice flavors. Some hunks of baker’s chocolate. Dialed up licorice on the cocoa coated finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Not bad! There’s a very reasonable, well-balanced smoke character in this one. Enough to please the smoke fans and keep the smoke crybabies from screeching.
