Butters (305), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 5, 2008 Draft while on honeymoon in Cancun. Now after having read the reviews, i agree with DuffMan - This reminded me of Negra Modelo, except not as good. Poured dark amber with good clarity and a thin light-tan head. Caramel, and weak malt flavor. A bit grainy in the aftertaste. Not all that great, but for mexico, this was a treat. Grovlam (2984), Copenhagen, Denmark Mar 12, 2008 Draught @ Applebee’s in Mexico. Average creamy off-white head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Clear sparkling body with a light dark amber color. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel, hint of grass and hay. Over the palate came more toasted malt, hint of butter and again grassy notes. Light bodied with an average carbonation and hint of dry texture. Light sweet flavor with a hint of bitterness. Sweet caramel and toasted malty finish. Quit ok beer in the Mexican sun. DuffMan (1915), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jan 19, 2007 This is available in bottles now for a limited time, marketed as "Edition Especial" with a fancy plastic label. Purchased in the mini-market in the plaza near the convention center. Truthfully, I found this identical to Negra Modelo in every respect (I had one right after the other, so I’m pretty set on this). Here is my rating for Negra Modelo: Dark amber, brown sugary aroma. Sweeter palate than the pale lager, a little metallic though. Not bad considering its origins. Ditto for Modelo Obscura. JF_GRIND (1205), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 3, 2006 While staying at Barcelo Premium Colonial Resort in the Mayan Riviera this was one of two beers available on draft. The other being Corona. Iced tea appearance, caramel flavor, and the only game in town if you wanted a beer with some color. PeterA (337), USA Jan 29, 2005 Bland, slightly sweet aroma. White head, dark amber color. Bittersweet flavor, with some malts. Slightly sticky mouthfeel.
