The last six pack from my August trip to Cincinnati. Deep brown clear brew with a thin, off white head. Active carbonation. Aroma dominated by malt and caramel. Flavor is sweet malt at the start but with a finish nicely balanced with subdued hops. Rather simple in flavor and character, but what’s in there is quite good.

Overall a good balance of hops and malts. Nice color. Better on tap than in a bottle.

Pours a clear dark brown with a thin tan head that floats on top of it. The nose is nutty with hints of almond and brown sugar. As you sip on it you can really taste the toasted malt and almond. there is some hop flavor but no big initial bite or any lasting tang. Overall the carbonation is alright and has a refreshing flavor but it is a bit watery.

Dark brown color but a little lighter than I expected. Good head with some lacing. Strong malty, syrupy aroma. Nutty, very sweet malty taste. A little watery. Decent, but forgettable.

Draft, once at Hyde Park Blast and once during Prohibition Resistance Tour in Cincinnati. Pours brown with short foamy off-white head. Nutty, malty, slightly syrupy.

Nice, oaty/cereal malt aroma with dark syrup. Smells like fresh pumpernickel - the aroma is the strong suit for the beer. Clear, medium walnut brown. Good label. Sweet and bocky, with strong raisin/prune flavors. The beer is a little swayback - prominent flavors on the initial swig and the finish, but then a little saggy and watery in the middle. Medium light body, with some chalkiness in the mouthfeel. A decent session brew, an excellent jambalaya or stew base, a good marinade candidate, and an excellent value at $3.99/6 on closeout.
