Russet, no head. Sweet black tea aroma. Autumnal leafy taste, a touch biscuity. Good traditional ale, but a touch thin in the mouth. Plenty of esters, decent bitterness, and a touch of yesterdays coffee grounds. Some caramel too. Lovely tasty finish. austone (1039), Turku; Pori, Finland

Little metallic, kalja-like rye on the nose, molassy sweetness, dried fruits and some hops. Flavor is very similar to Sinebrychoff’s perinnekalja actually, just with hops and more fruitiness. Slightly herbal, sweet rusty finish. More towards mild or scottish ales, nothing that exciting. oh6gdx (9047), Vasa, Finland

Aroma is fruits, nuts, some mild grass and caramel. Flavour is nuts, fruity hops and some mild notes of wood and sap. Nice and wellbalanced. downender (2629), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 21, 2007 Cloudy coke coloured ale with a lacy off-white head. Perhaps too easy this one. Kinda juicy fruitiness with plums and blueberries complement the toasty and all through nutty, very light palate. Frankly drinkable, certainly not bitter at all and barely leafy, but something is missing. Eating plain malts would offer as much complexity. Ungstrup (15380), Frederiksberg, Denmark

The aroma is quite light with notes of malt and nuts. The flavor is sweet and very powerful with notes of caramel, and honey as well as light notes of yeast. The mouthfeel is thick. It reminds me more of a Belgian Brune than a Porter, but anyways quite nice. MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 10, 2007 Any first impressions?
-A thick foam protects very dark reddish tones.
-Cranberry and pomegranate fruitiness combines with darker malts in the subtle aroma.
-Berries dominate the flavor profile nearly covering the toasty caramel maltiness.
-The comfortable mouthfeel is created by gentle carbonation and precisely built maltiness.
What if you dig deeper?
-Roastiness and bready notes peek through the timid finish.
-Bread rises in the aroma as well, offering a predictably sustaining nose.
-This cushiony dark bitter with old ale leanings was quite the pleasant quaff, but lacked a little oomph to make it more than satisfying.
On cask at Cloister’s Bar, Edinburgh.
