Commercial Description:
Fat Belly Amber is our Scottish-style export ale. It is one of our three flagship beers at the pub. Scottish export ales are dark copper to deep brown in color. The flavor characteristics are sweet, caramel-like, and malty. Hop flavor and aroma are nonexistent, and bitterness is overwhelmed by the malty finish. Color: Copper-Amber Starting Gravity: 11.7*Plato Finishing Gravity: 2.7*Plato IBUs: 22 Hop Varieties: Northern Brewer

At brewpub in Billings. Pours very dark and clear. Drinkable amber/Scottish brew. Thumbs up.

Tap at the brewpub, the second best beer they served. Nutty, mild, malty and quite sessionable, with a big, appropriate level of carbonation. Grainy and creamy, dead on style; one of the better Scottish Ales I’ve had.

On draught at the brewery/restaurant in downtown, Billings, Montana. Pours a clear coppery penny amber brew with a decent off-whtie head that has great retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, some flowery hops and some light fruity character. Taste is semi-sweet, medium bodied, light carbonation with some sweet malt and flowery hop flavors. Finish has a nice malt and hop bitter aftertaste that also has a semi-sweet and then clean flavor. Reading some of the previous rates it looks like either I received a fresh batch or the brewmaster’s experience has really improved since the last rating.

Draft at brewpub. Copper color with an average white frothy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Light sweet malty aroma. Light ot medium body. Light balanced flavor with a sweet balanced finish of short duration. Good beer for the macro lovers.

GABF 2005: Pours orange with a good amount of white head. There was a grainy aroma but not that much. Taste was just nothing special.

On tap @ pub: Light, caramelly nose, mild, nutty maltiness; well balanced though dull; thin and slightly hopped with some earthy and spicy hops; pretty average

GABF 2004. Light orange, clear, with a large, white head. Bigtime lacing, though head retention wasn’t much. Bready, grainy aroma along with some sour milk. Short flavor, lightly sweet turning slightly bitter. Aftertaste is nearly non-existant. Light bodied and thin on the palate.
