very rich malt flavor, full bodied, mostly dry with an earthy peat character, just enough carmel sweetness to keep it interesting and balanced, no hint of the 8% alcohol

after a few pints, and warming a bit, it becomes rich and complex with some ripe fruit character, the alcohol does show up but it is so well ingraned with the dark malts that it just adds to the overall excellence

Aurelius (2643), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Mar 12, 2004 Hands down the best beer at this pub. Very nice vanilla, fruit and cream aroma. Deep, clear ruby brown. Smooth, wine and peat flavor. A bit of astringency and mouldering, moderately sweet. A bit of cream and chocolate. Nice nutty finish. HopsOrDie (687), New Lenox, Illinois, USA Feb 13, 2004 Dark brown in color. Small light tan head. Low carbonation. Sweet aroma. This is by far the best beer on tap at the brewery. Thick/Sticky palate with malty flavor. Not quite enough of that Scottish flavor, but overall a good beer.
