acrdz (4129), Pennsylvania, USA May 2, 2008 375ml shared by argo0. Thick dark blood red or purple colored body with minimal carbonation. Nose of syrah, oak, char, plum, overripe red grapes, and a bit of booze and some phenol chemical notes as well. Tastes of prickly, tannic grape and plum skin, some wine-like oak dryness, especially developing in the finish. Very interesting, and an improvement over the original.
BlackDonald (696), On a beer trip all over the USA, California, USA Jul 16, 2008 Thanks Beerlando! This is a truly lovely drinking experience. Pours a somewhat oily but decadent deep brown in color with absolutely no head at all. Vinous fruits and caramelized brown sugar. Its amazing to me how you can take a miniscule beer and barrel age it and it come alive, completely transformed. Front of the palate is slightly vinous and fruity, then a flavor explosion happens, sweet vanilla and oak notes, some dry red wine like tannins. This is really different and delicious. alexanderj (1194), Roanoke, Virginia, USA Jul 8, 2008 Bottle; I think this is my first beer from Italy. Color was a nice dark, reddish-cola brown. Head was off white in color. Aroma was heavy on fruit, oak with a definite tartness presence. Thought I could pick up a bit of spice. Flavor was definite unusual for a barley wine, I am guessing its due to the wine aging. To me it just didn’t work that well and I just couldn’t get myself to really like it. Flavor was dominated by the oak/fruit flavors; a bit harsh; would have liked the underlying beer to shine through a bit better. hopdog (4371), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 4, 2008 12.7oz bottle acquired in trade with Beerlando (thanks!). Poured a dark and cloudy brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of oaky woodiness, vinous, grapes, cherries, and some chocolate. Tastes of wood, wine, dark fruits, woody, chocolate, and grapes. Light tart finish with the alcohol well hidden. bu11zeye (3573), Frisco, Texas, USA Jul 2, 2008 (375ml bottle) Pours a dark brown body with mahogany edges and spare beige head. Aroma of oak, cherry, vinous, barnyard, caramel, and chocolate. Flavor of subtle sourness, oak, roasted malt, vinous, berries, and some chocolate with a dry finish. JB175 (1269), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 28, 2008 Bottle from pepsican - thanks! Reddish-brown color with a sweet and sour aroma dominated by red wine, oak, and dark sugars. Flavor had some nice Sangiovese or Tempranillo along with a good dose of wood and a nice tart-citrus bite. Really good and unique.
