donfardz64 (71), Wellington, New Zealand Aug 20, 2008 Pours almost pitch black, slight red showing through. Fluffy off white head which dissipates after a while to a thin layer.Toasty aromas, burnt malt, yeast. Quite a sweet tasting dark, not much bitterness. Mild toasty malty flavours come through and linger for a while. Overall a very drinkable beer, a good gateway black for the wary. HughConway (259), USA Aug 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark almost black with tan head. Malt aroma, malt taste. Pleasingly dark in a land of lagers. yespr (6259), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 7, 2008 33 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with a redish glare and a small, creamy and tan head. Roasted breadish malt aroma with a mild fruity touch. Flavour is also solid breadish with a distinct roasted note. Mild spiced and light fruity. Light liqourice finish with a continued roasted flavour. CapnStabbin (12), Wellington, New Zealand Aug 4, 2008 Of NZ’s widely produced black beers, this is the best. However, the taste is still a bit uneven. Solid effort. Chrism86 (57), Melbourne, Australia Jul 18, 2008 Updated: Aug 26, 2008Pours more or less black (who would have thought!) with a reasonable beige head. Displays a rather dark malty nose, milk chocolate and mocha notes present with some espresso characters as well. Palate is much of the same with the addition of some nice biscuity malt that adds complexity. End palate produces a rather dry hoppy finish.
