eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 11, 2006 Poured a dark brown color with a good and solid persistent head that laced average. The rest was downhill within the style, but geez, how can you even attempt this style within a state capped at 6%ABV? Flavor was disappointing, come chocolate but a mouthfull of caramel malts (it seems they really like that variety here). Almost like a red amber with double the malt content and incomplete fermentation / attentuation. Too much residual water/malt flavor going on in this one. No complexity to the flavor and very disappointing within style. Mouthfeel was light and watery for the style. Sorry, nice try given the constraints, but stick with the best under 6% styles here in AL (or break the law and just brew higher, lol). Aurelius (2643), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Apr 21, 2006 Fairly dark ruby brown, lingering camel-colored head. Very fruity, prune aroma. Sweet with a buffered tanginess. Prunes, chocolate. Medium-heavy mouthfeel, bitterness builds in a chalky finish. Pretty good, but not terribly complex though.
