MartinT (4377), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 14, 2007 My Bottom Line:
Fruity honey and citrusy, wooden hop bitterness are competently balanced in a round mouthfeel. This is not a gimmicky honey beer, but rather a well thought out Heller Bock which knows how to integrate honey in its suave maltiness.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-Big-bubbled foam frolicks atop the honeyed gold.
-Alcohol heats up the back end, but never bothers.
-Yet another Moon River beer which didn’t exactly wow me, but which was so well crafted that I thoroughly enjoyed my glass.
On tap at the brewpub. aracauna (2239), Georgia, USA Mar 10, 2007 Clear, dark gold with a good head. Rich sweet, but not cloying maltiness. The honey is well integrated, very smooth flavor. Balance of sweetness, bitterness and alcohol. A very good brewpub bock. antzman (305), Clarksville, Indiana, USA Feb 24, 2007 Draft. Pours a medium gold with a full white head. Excellent lacing on the glass. This was served in a Houblon Chouffe glass, which initially impressed me, until I saw a made in the USA inscribed in the bottom of the glass. Regardless of the glassware selection, the aroma is biscuit malty with a bit of sweetness rolling through. The flavor is oh, so smooth. Nice malty flavor with some Georgia honey to sweeten things up. The honey covers up the fairly high ABV of 8.5%. A very interesting beer.
