Commercial Description:
This brew is intended to be a Flanders-style sour brown ale. A basic brown ale recipe was fermented out with a fairly neutral sacharomyces strain and then aged in used whiskey and brandy barrels for one year. Our barrels had aged some of our other beers previously, so we were shooting for slightly less boozy, vanilla flavors for this one. Also, each of the three barrels were inoculated with a separate strain of various cultures often associated with Belgian sour beers, including several brett. strains, lactobacillus and pediococcus. After a year, a tertiary fermentation was kicked off with the addition of 280 # of macerated fresh, whole peaches. Then final result is a blend of various wild flavors with a lingering taste of ripe peach flesh.

Draft at the brewpub. Light amber color. Thin, white head. Very nice, peachy aroma that isn’t too overpowering. Flavor is a pleasant surprise. Tart, funky peaches mesh well with the oaky, vanilla flavor. Warming alcohol in the finish. Best beer of the weekend.

On tap at the Moon River Brewery. Pours a clear brownish amber with a thin white head. Has a very sweet honey, peach aroma with a hint of sourness. Thinner body than I expected. Has a nice malty peach taste with lots of sour funk in the mix. Don’t be fooled by the brown ale in the name, there is some sour funk in this.
