Commercial Description:
This toasty amber ale was originally concieved as a "harvest" brew to celebrate the fall season. Some brewers like to make Pumpkin beers this time of year, but Moon River chose to use Jumbo Sweet Potatoes instead. "There's really no excuse... I just like to say 'Tater!" explains Brewmaster Pinkerton. Another departure from the Pumkin ale tradition is our choice to leave the pie spices out of the beer. Instead we serve each pint with a blend of those familiar spices and ground, roasted pumpkin seeds on the rim of each glass (optional). So, what should one expect from this strange concoction? The beer is basically a not-so-mild English-style Mild Ale, capitalizing on a snappy, forward malt flavor and a floral, herbal English hop character. At 4.5 % ABV, the 'Tater is a bit more forgiving on those of us who arn't so good at sipping!

(Rating #2259)

A very, very interesting beer. Designed to be for the fall, different from other pumpkin/spice beers in that the spice is put on the rim of the glass. The beer itself does not have a strong aroma, but the glass is dipped into spices to create the the nose of the beer. The first beer Ive had brewed with sweet potatoes. I give them credit for their creativeness. A decent beer and a pleasant surprise.

From a sampler on 10/25/08. Amber in color. Lightly spicey aroma. Taste was fairly bland. Hint of spice and slightly bitter.

Name: Tater
Date: 11/19/2007
Mode: Draft
Source: Brewpub

served with a nutty cinamon sugar rim around the glass, clear copper, thick dirty white head, lots of scattered lace, aroma is all cinamon sugar from the rim, sweet caramel malt flavor, good bready character, nice touch of some other starchy character that I guess must be patato, light earthy hops keep it mostly dry, hard to judge with the special rimmed glass but that adds the most character to what might otherwise be a mostly gimic basic amber ale,

4 oz. sampler. Pours a clear, light orange. Small, white head. Mouthfeel is bitter. Notes of caramel malt. The sweet potato is a interesting flavor. Decent beer, but not my favorite.

On tap at the brewpub. Light orangeish pour, decent white head. Aroma not very prominent - hint of sugary sweetness. Flavor has some decent bitter notes, hints of yams, cotton candy. Slightly bland though. Smooth mouthfeel.

This one is a clear copper with a fuzzy head, served without the optional spicing and pumpkin seeds. There’s a light caramel maltiness and a faint (very) hop bite.
